The Trash Game Dilemma

Since there’s no skill based matchmaking its extremely possible to get games where you can’t even leave spawn. It’s not really a good excuse not to have SBMM in a game where even one cracked player means having no chance of winning.

There’s no player feedback either. Why not introduce a ‘like’ and ‘dislike’ button on your matches. Its just weird that there’s no player feedback whatsoever. The best you can do is ‘avoid’ problematic team mates and its not even forever. Just 7 days. The guy you avoid also doesn’t know he’s being avoided so he may not even know what he just did was being toxic.

Actually that’s another issue. When the game tells you ‘your thing has been flagged for such and such’ it doesn’t really say why. There’s no evidence, there’s no logs, no anything. So there isn’t even a feedback loop that tells you which behaviors are encouraged or discouraged.

From experience, you will get about 4-5 trash games for every one good game on average. Out of those, minimum of one will be so one sided its better to just stay in spawn, boot up a different game and play that for 10 minutes. It’s a more efficient use of your time.

You could, also leave, but there’s a limit to that and you get penalized for leaving the toxic match for which, you have no chance of winning. Now, staying means eventually you get frustrated and may result in saying something terrible to people, and the normal thing to do there, is to not say anything and just leave, but as we’ve established, leaving may not even be an option.

This is the toxic spiral.

Get a match. It’s terrible. Leave. Get another match. It’s terrible again. You can’t leave you’ll get a penalty. Get frustrated to the point of toxicity. Say something toxic and get flagged. Alterantively, keep your feelings bottled up and not say anything. Because that’s not mentally toxic at all. Just keep that stuff inside you like a bad tin of sardines.

You could solve all this by simply having SBMM. Which is weird because even call of duty has SBMM. And Activision owns call of duty. Theyve had the technology for years now.

Where? There is in comp and QP. Not in arcade. So are you talking about arcade?

They have them even in arcade….

Don’t confuse skill based with actual skill…it’s just an approximation based on how you do…all modes get the same treatment…however bad people think it is

Custom maybe since people choose the game they want to be in

We used to have these, but it’s not good data.
Some people disliked all escort maps, some people disliked a match if a certain hero was played etc.

Just don’t say anything.
Even if you don’t leave, just don’t open chat or voice.

Self control. You’re not a baby, so there’s no reason why you couldn’t control yourself.

This isn’t a relationship with a loved one. Most of your teammates won’t remember you ever were in the match.
In an actual relationship, bottling things up isn’t healthy.
But the match is like passing strangers on the street, even if a stranger is intentionally wearing a really garish cardigan to annoy people you’re expected to not comment on it. It’s called manners.

Also. Everything in overwatch (apart from custom games) has SBMM.
The parameters are just tighter in comp than in any other mode.

They don’t like feedback. They believe they know better than everyone else.

They said that they only listen to the “distilled” feedback through the content creators, even though most of the streamers are getting sponsored and paid by Blizzard itself, which means their feedback is lacking at best, if not biased.

They see OW as a “magical” experience where people log in, turn their brain off, focus only on playing, and trust the devs to handle everything seamlessly in the background.

They view themselves as the “Apple Inc.” of gaming studios, except that they are not. Their game is (and always has been) a mess.

I mean we have countless examples of them listening to feedback (you want a recent example? Dva getting changes…sombra getting changes despite people like samito throwing hissy fits saying they shouldn’t touch her….hell, 6v6 testing in future)

What they don’t do is come on here anymore since there’s no point…but they do take in feedback

A like/dislike system is not supposed to take every single piece of feedback seriously. It’s supposed to create a general picture of what’s working and what’s not.

They can do a cross-analysis of what factors lead to the dissatisfaction of the players.

Example: Among 1,000 games where Sombra is picked, 800 are disliked, while among 1,000 games where Sombra is not picked, only 400 are disliked. ==> Conclusion: Sombra is hated.

And beyond the useful information this system can provide, it helps people vent if they are frustrated or helps solidify their enjoyment if they are happy.

I mean, these are obvious flaws that should not have been there in the first place. I’m not talking about this type of feedback.

If anything, the fact that they are not reacting quickly to the state of those problematic heroes is a sign of not caring enough about people’s feedback.

And what they ignore completely is the preemptive feedback. They seem to mainly react to things that go viral on social media and become the talk of the hour.
