The term carry should not exist in a team game

The term “carry” in a team based game like Overwatch is misused too often. The term “carry” is too selfish in a team game. There is no such thing as “carrying” the “team” to victory.

I think the word “carry” is just a gamer slang word used to recognize a hero that makes good plays. That’s all.

Welp, problem is that this game like to give people solo carry potential
Either as a hero who is just strong solo agains other team
Or put someone 2 ranks higher in match and they can play any dps and be the best on the field.
Also people been complaining when they were not able to carry matches, that leads to problems, ebcause thats what people expect to do in “team” games now… sadly

Spoken like someone that has never carried. What an ignorant opinion. You’re telling me you’ve NEVER seen one player dominate the other team and be the main reason his team won?

3 gold medals every single game as a DPS
tanks run in and die and supports out of position
don’t tell me that medals mean nothing
and guess who gets blamed postgame ?

I mean, someone can, definitely “carry”. Haven’t you had a match where this other teammate made you go “damn. I’m being carried.”

DPS are supposed to have gold medals. Depending on the hero and makeup of your team, you should have all four. It doesn’t at all mean you’re carrying.

That is only a symptom of poor hero countering or system team match making.

Analogies:

Poor countering:

Player sees soup and grabs a fork instead of a spoon.

Poor match ups:

A professional football player playing against high school students.

It’s weird how often this happens.

“carrying” shouldn’t exist in a team game

but neither should throwers or one tricks that aren’t even good at being a one trick

If you perform significantly better than all the others on your team and played a major role in winning that round, that means you ‘carried’ .

Not exclusive to DPS,
Tanks and Supports can carry too
A Winston killing the enemy healers every teamfight
Or a Mercy with clutch rezzes, damage boosting at all the right times

After losing, end game medals are meaningless.

Just fools gold. :1st_place_medal::1st_place_medal::1st_place_medal: :slightly_frowning_face:

Looks like just good plays to me. So the term “carry” is just a slang term for “good” plays.

Carrying in terms of gaming does not mean your performance was way better then your teammates. It actually refer’s to winning DESPITE your teammates being dead weight. You had to place them on your back and “carry” them to victory because they were of no help to you.

So its not exactly about YOUR performance as much as it is about the performance of your team.

Well, ‘good plays’ are just individual moments. It’s more in the sense that someone is playing consistently better than the rest of his/her team, within the confines of one match, that is. That can be seen as ‘carrying’.

And of course it’s gamer jargon. The normal definition of ‘to carry’ is: ‘to pick up an object and move it somewhere else’.

Well, it’s about your performance relative to that of the rest of your team.

Unlike other team games
‘Carry’ in OW is mostly soft carrying, unless you’re a GM smurf who can 1v6
Hard Carrying isn’t really a thing in normal OW games

When a match begins, the goal is to win as a “team” not to “carry” right?

To go into a game with the intent to “carry” is not a good mental state for a team game.

Maybe that’s why professionals smurf in lower tiers.
To get a sense of “I can do this myself” in a team game?

Other players look up to professional players. How can anyone think it’s cool to trash lower tier play? It maybe a professional psychological problem.

My only complaint is about heroes self sufficient enough (less team reliant) that makes them hard to kill and requires a team effort to shut down 1 character…

But it is specifically about them being dead weight. To many people use the term to refer to their own performance when in fact it is just a means of insulting your team.

It is a way of telling them they were useless and you do not need them. I have yet to see someone who is doing well not being backed up by their team in terms of an entire match.
