The tanking problem

There seems to be a problem that people who queue for tank are rare in number, and that people who queue for tank and care about the role are even rarer. It’s not just that there aren’t enough tank players. It seems that the playerbase has collectively decided that the tank role is not fun (something that is decidedly not true), and has used that as an excuse to avoid the entire role.

People are literally depriving themselves of a whole different playstyle in the game, all because they are told it is not fun, or because they let a handful of bad experiences cloud their opinion of the role.

Tanking is fun. In my opinion, it is the most fun role. I will go out on a limb and say out of that, main tanking is the most fun I have in the game. The impact you have on a game is subtle enough for most to miss, but is absolutely enormous once you see the signs. I just really wish more people saw the tank role for the fun it truly is. I don’t want to be a rarity; I want more people to break through the numerous misconceptions about the role and realize that it can be just as fun as playing dps or support.

I think tank is a fun role to play, but I’d almost never solo queue tank on an account below high master.

Tanks are fun to play when you can trust in having another tank and a healer with basic competence in their role, and a team capable of playing aggressive.

When it comes to solo queue the only tanks I’d normally touch are Ball and Hog, because I just don’t have the patience to play anything less independent with randoms.

Tanks are fun to play , I think the lack of options is whats boring people . Tanks also have a lot of stress on them , if you cant manage shields or get hooks right, push in and protect your team, its pretty much a guarantee lose unless your dps are amazing which face it, is hardly ever according to the forums .

Dps queues are long so … lol

Might as well get the instant queue on heals, pick Baptiste or moira and kill things.

The actual problem with tanks is CC. The amount of stuns on tanks is ridiculous. Also lacking heals or finish blows makes tanking a nightmare, which is something that can happen regardless at any rank. But as tank you have more impact than any other role as you essentially decide how and when team fights happen, when to poke and when to retreat.

Love tanking. It can be super tough but also super rewarding .

Fun is pretty subjective. No one told me what is or isnt fun i can assure you im able to decide for myself.

I play a few tank games a day and for sure its the least fun most infuriating thing I do in all of overwatch.

Nothing compares to the rage i feel when i pick tank in this game. I almost always end up screaming at my team by the time my few games are up.

Its not a role for everyone.
