The Symmetra changes…

Seem like a whole lot of nerfs???

Photon Projector (Primary Fire)

  • Maximum ammo increased from 70 to 100
  • No longer generates ammo when damaging barriers

Photon Projector (Secondary Fire)

  • Projectile speed increased from 25 to 50
  • Max damage reduced from 120 to 90 (45 impact, 45 explosion)
  • Max charge projectile size reduced from 0.5 to 0.4
  • Ammo cost increased from 7 to 10
  • Charge time increased from 1 to 1.2 seconds

Teleporter

  • Build time reduced from 2 to 1 second
  • Now has a maximum lifetime of 10 seconds
  • Cooldown increased from 10 to 16 seconds
  • Cooldown starts when Teleporter is placed
  • Health reduced from 300 to 200 (50 health, 150 shields)
  • Range reduced from 30 to 22

Sentry Turrets

  • Travel speed increased from 15 to 20
  • Movement speed reduction on targets reduced from 20% per turret to 15% per turret

Not even a equalizing damage buff to the turrets, which will do LESS effective damage now that they don’t slow heroes as much.

On another note: Zero Moira changes

The only thing I really don’t like here is the range reduction on TP. I feel that’s unnecessary, or at least a bit too harsh. The other changes seem like fair trade off so looking forward to trying these :slight_smile:

That said, if it were me, I’d make it so that

  1. Alternate fire can charge up the Primary Charge Levels
  2. Charge Levels increase the charge speed of Alternate Fire

Glad to see infinite TP gone, but increasing the CD AND reducing the range with the only tradeoff being a faster deploy seems dumb.

Also reducing TP’s deploy, but making full alt fire charge longer after reducing the damage also seems “Why?”, but maybe double projectile will make up for it. We’ll see.

Orbs seem like the biggest change. Idk how I feel about the other ones. Also hoping tp feels better.

cooldown beginning on deployment means there’s only a 6s total downtime, much better than the 10s we have right now

I think just about every time I try to compile a list of Symmetra changes based on my internal thoughts it turns out wayyy too broken.

These changes keep the essential jist of what Symmetra needs, but evidently they’ve done the necessary testing and tuning to keep Symmetra in line. I’ve been calling for faster Teleporter deploy for soooooo long, awesome to actually see it now.

Found the notes. Not a lot of changes. Lets hope for more when the moira changes come in 1,5 weeks.

Wow. Like, I think she’ll actually be worse after this.

Every single positive change is slammed with a nerf to make it significantly worse.

I just don’t understand.

The orbs sound fun, everything else not much a fan of.

I think she will still be too slow in 5v5. But will look to see what the Sym mains can do with her.

They nerfed her across the board just to get you slightly faster orbs that are still slow af.
I was right about the longer orb charge time. Steevo was wrong about the hanzo projectile speed. I was right about the devs changing her into a bland orb spammer.
That’s DPS Symmetra in OW2: Horrible utility AND horrbile damage abilities.
I hope people finally realize how awful Sym is in the DPS category.
She belongs in the support category. Just let her keep her utility.

Spoiler alert: TP still holds her back.

But you can only place one TP every 16 seconds now. On live you can do that every 10 seconds if you destroy it instantly.

3 things i hope never return to Sym is auto aim primary, Shield gen and throwable barrier.
Any other rework im ok with.

Is why she belongs in the support role with the proper changes to fit into that role.
She doesnt fit into the DPS role no matter how many changes they do to her. Especially increasing or lowering damage numbers.

In exchange for greater reliability and faster secondary fire. As I said previously; you can’t expect to get any major changes without giving up some power elsewhere.

Hmm… I’m not too sure about this one either. Faster teleporters for longer cooldowns, and less health doesn’t seem like it would need a range reduction; but the new maps may require some tweaks here to avoid some exploitative gameplay.

this is HUGE in a good way… but that cooldown very long tho. Overall smells kinda like a nerf, but these mechanics are easier to buff than how her kit on live works. See how she works in 5v5 when people have time to practice her and maybe she could get a small buff to tp cooldown or m2, but this is overall a good change. Finally we are getting a good m2 and infinite tp reverted! I can hear zephrin screaming from across the atlantic over this

the 1 sec deploy gives her WAY more playstyle variation. Its a very significant change that will feel amazing, even if overall she ends up weaker

The second fire changes are independent of the turrets

The turret fly time has diminishing returns based on distance and preemptive use.
