There’s several hero’s with much more annoying 1 shots that also don’t take much skill yet because of one viral TikTok complaining about Roadhog’s hook combo, i’m seeing a huge wave of backlash and discourse about the character
If you find yourself constantly being caught out of position by a Roadhog then there is a skill issue. I think that lack of shields in Overwatch 2 made him harder to dodge but there’s so much terrain and objects to quickly bounce around and outplay the enemy Roadhog. Secondly, he’s one of, if not the most easy tanks to bully as he has no shield and doesn’t have any movement abilities.
If you’re playing characters that have limited movement and no stuns/debuffs against an enemy Roadhog then maybe switch? He’s not difficult to counter. Im sure he could use minor tweaks but overall I personally don’t think he’s this broken character that a lot of people are making him out to be. As someone who plays a lot of support, heros like Doomfist, Tracer and Sojourn make the game a lot less fun than Roadhog imo

Its mostly flanker players or people who, as you said, get in line of sight of Hog and get aptly punished for it because they get major tunnel vision and also ignore the hook as punishment.

Roadhog has been cancer before the inception of OW2. Solo tank queue in the last seasons of OW1 was absolute torture because your random partner would 100% pick him and leave you actually ‘tanking’ alone. He deserves all the hate.

Exactly. There’s only so much backlash against him because he can counter a lot of DPS heros… and we know DPS players are the only ones allowed to have fun in this game lmfao

In general, the community seems to be in a constant state of complaining about how broken _______ tank is (and always has been!)
It was hilarious to watch the same people say, “Oh, no, I’m specifically saying THIS tank is the worst” only to move onto the new fotm tank to hate.

To be fair, tanks often are the most broken part of a given meta. However, in general, Winston, Hammond, Hog, and Sigma(individually, not counting double shield) haven’t been menaces on their own.
Rein to a lesser degree also hasn’t been much of a menace, though his earthshatter was more questionable before Sigma was added.
Zarya, D.va, and Orisa were solo menaces a lot of the time, Zarya moreso in casual play and primarily because of grav.

Eh, agree to disagree. I think tanks are often the most VISIBLE part of a broken meta, but every component is key. BeyBlade was likely more reliant on Ana than anything else. Double Shield had as much to do with Baptiste as it did Sigma. GOATS was almost entirely a Brig/Lucio issue.
But most of the players who make these complaints aren’t playing where “meta comps” are even a thing.

Gotta be honest, I have had periods of time where I hated Zarya passionately because of Projected Barrier. I felt that I could outplay someone, only for Zarya to look in their direction and press a button without having to aim it and save them from whatever mistake I felt they deserved to cost them their life. It was an extra cooldown to track outside of all the engagements I took, and I had to make sure she used it BEFORE I even started tracking my target’s cooldowns.

I think it’s more so because he’s pretty easy to play and very punishing. People aren’t always out of position to die to hog, his hooks maneuvers weird through terrain to grab you at times and it’s 20m long. He has some countering, but it takes a lot of focus to kill hog because he also has incredible sustain & health. One person isn’t really going to nab him before he 1) gets hook again 2) gets to heal again 3) can run away.
He can insta-kill 250hp heroes just by landing one ability with a generous hit box on a short cool down. There’s also very little anyone can do about it besides essentially hide from it which just isn’t always possible. Since moving to less barriers and 5v5, he has a ton of power and it’s not just one tik-tok that made this suddenly happen. Especially when flanking, if you eye him out of the corner of your eye from good positioning you can’t do anything about him if he hooks you as soon as you land eyes on him.

Oh for sure, Zarya is 100% cheap. Nothing I love more than a target weasling out of their deserved death because Zarya or Ana clicked a button a mile away

There are other much more broken tanks right now. If going to nerf someone start with rein.
There’s nothing sudden about it. The general sentiment has long been hate towards Hog.

Oh sure they are dying to a bronze roadhog, no they die to cyx a 4.7 k player on roadhog.or another gm hog.

Kiriko made him op , he has no weaknesses now also that fat streamer is the one who ignited this hate , even in OW1 he has been constantly complaining about him , he just want to play Rien all day which is very sad if you ask me

Nah, hog is dps player’s favorite to-go tank.
I have no issue with his hook combo at all, considering my main dps are heroes like cass, genji, tracer, soldier etc.
If anything, I used high mobility to have less chance of getting hook rather than thinking that’s my counter, considering flankers’ counters are consistent aim (like torb’s turret), and not a burst hook on a cd.
