The state of matchmaking in a nutshell

Started a game on Eichewald defense. Went well, all fights won, we slowly push the enemy team back to spawn. Then 2 of them leave the game and are replaced. Suddenly, the feeding D.Va becomes a Ball that runs over our team, and the whatever healer they had is replaced by a Kiri who does her job quite well. In no time, we lose point 1, then everything crumbles and we lose in a just 2 minutes. Ball goes 17-0, Kiri 7-0.
At the end of the game, since the Ball profile was private, I wrote :

Me : gg. Ball, what rank ?
Ball : ggs. Peak M5. Current D1
Me : I’m silver 2… no comment
Ball : WTF ?

Yeah, WTF ? I don’t care that it’s QP and QP is “for fun”… Masters (actually T500, he was kind enough to add me as a friend so I could see his profile) vs Silver 2 (on dps, and I was playing support, and I’m silver 5 on support), that should NEVER happen…

If it makes you feel any better, competitive is just as bad.

Was in a silver-gold game. Enemy Soldier was absolutely dominating the lobby. Like very obvious they did not belong there. Go into their profile, they have been high diamond (and had never dropped lower than diamond) for the past 5 seasons… I still don’t understand how he got into that game. I guess maybe he was doing placements?

I’ve come up against (and played with!!) masters players in gold/plat lobbies? It’s so nonsensical.

The quality of games are getting worse as OW2 progresses.

That’s crazy. It should happen even less in competitive !!! I really don’t get it. I know : queue times, blah blah blah. I don’t care. This makes for crappy matches, and I’d much rather wait 10 more minutes than face someone far above my level…

Backfill seems to totally ignore mmr when it backfills, just puts whoever in. I’ve seen bronze 5 and top10 peak players backfill into my matches. I understand they don’t want the game to be down a player too long, in the past it took upwards of a min or 2 at higher mmr, making the game pretty much be over. Just quickly putting in just anyone also isn’t right. I’m sure higher mmr players have noticed that often they can turn around a backfill game, because chances are it’s way below their skill level since majority of matches are plat and lower mmr.
