Coming back on here just to remind everyone how terrible the Sombra rework is. Like, awful, there’s no way blizzard didn’t know. You all know this is a valid complaint too. In upper ranked you’re playing against really good players, which is fine, but Sombra has everything attached to one cool down. You need invis because your health is really low, so you can only go in or go out. Unless you want to go in and wait on the cooldown which makes you useless for half the time in the match. That’s fine until you get past bronze and you can’t disappear for half the fight to wait on your cooldown. Legit, like, there’s no win here. If you make a single mistake you die. Like, what can we do to make blizzard admit it and just change it already. Making invis on a resource meter? Thoughts? and also, I don’t want senseless Sombra hate in the comments, it’s so cringe at this point and just self exposing for being a crap player.
As a Support with every reason to hate Sombra mains…even I admit that 5 second cloak duration is too little. She’s expected to flank, set up a plan, and execute that plan in the span of 5 seconds? I’d at least give her 7. Hell, it takes 5 seconds just to get around the entire enemy team to hit the backline.
I appreciate the support, and some Sombra’s were super toxic to supports. Honestly unless there’s a widow it kind of becomes a hunt supports strategy most the time. You understand the nuance of how they utterly destroyed her though so I appreciate it. It’s like nuking a character after a bunch of people bought skins and invested time in playing.
thats just the way she plays after the virus rework. that is your whole goal as sombra, take out a support or a low health hero on retreat. opportunistic assassin hero
before the virus rework she was a bit more utility base but you still kind of did the same. messed with tanks a bit more.
during overwatch 1, mostly utility support dps and disruptor against tanks for sure. i mean taking out supports was awesome but you mainly focused on heroes who are really reliant on abilities. mercy was that support i would think but still she was a menace to all heroes since taking away abilities. any hero who didnt rely on abilities was a risk to go against… like soldier or mccree
Invis doesn’t work tied to her tp. They wanted to remove perma stealth but they cannot make the duration between tp/invis any more or less than it currently is. If increase the duration to match with her tp cooldown then it’s basically perma stealth again. If they lower it then she can never flank. What we have now is unfortunately the best that can be done under this rework which just shows how bad it is.
The solution imo is to combine hack + virus into one ability in order to free up her shift to make invis it’s own cooldown with a set duration. That way you can make it long enough to function as her engage but not permanent.
Yeah, I think I agree with you and Drunk as well. I would prefer her to be more utility oriented than damage. I mean right now, she’s just trash, i’m a good sombra player and I don’t say that lightly but it’s still soooo difficult to play competitively in ranked right now. You have a good idea about the hack+virus. I wouldn’t know without trying it but it’s not like she can get worse right?
oh the one thing I learned with this dev team is no matter how bad things seem…they can always get worse lol.
Sombra is probably my least favorite thing in this whole game and I think what Blizzard did was messed up
I’m a proud and mighty quickplay warrior and have been for nearly 8 years. I know the trends of how long it takes people to adjust to playing as/with/against reworks. In my experience, this is one of the slowest learning/improvement periods I’ve seen. Usually after 2 weeks, there’s a general, if sloppy, idea of how the rework affects stuff like team comp, matchups, etc. It’s been 3 weeks since they buffed her after the INITIAL change and Sombra is an absolute mess unless there’s obvious grouping with comms
The hero just does nothing. Maybe a cheeky kill, a temporary spawn trap for a Zen who just swaps to Moira and makes Sombra irrelevant. But I feel like it’s rare to see a Sombra now and think “man, they totally carried”
She’s nowhere near the worst any hero has ever been, but she went from “kinda crap but at least she’s the anti-widow” to “kinda crap but at least she can lightly harass people and get one solo kill per lunar eclipse” and I’m not impressed. Enjoying seeing her less and less, but not impressed
even after the rework im doing well with her. i mean i can see some benefits especially the burst potential. they kinda reworked her in a weird way where if they do buff her she is one buff away from being broken again
it all started with the virus rework imo. they should have never touched her back then but buff her base abilities. i mean i do miss the overwatch 1 version of sombra but tanks would dissappear from queue lol
Yeah, that’s a really good understanding of it all Silver. NGL in quickplay i’ve been dominating as Sombra, it’s usually an easy carry for my team to victory. Just in ranked it gets extremely difficult. She is basically unplayable now sadly. At least on PC. At least your honest about seeing her less and less, but I appreciate your understanding in how she basically has no utility now.
Every time it seems like a new hero rework is taking a bit too long to “sink in” for the community even if it seems like that shouldn’t be happening, it’s usually a sign buffs or adjustments are coming. Looking at you, Lifeweaver
I think Sombra is still a WIP and will probably see something in S14, possibly midseason after they confirm her stance among other heroes with the S13 data. I can’t imagine she’s looking amazing, though, lol. And yeah I play on console idk how much that matters for Sombra specifically as I don’t play her but I imagine better AD strafing is great on her? Aim assist + hacked virus boost though…
Uhm no, she remains bs and is somehow lowkey strong.
People keep for some reason playing her like old Sombra when she’s not old Sombra.
Play new Sombra like new Sombra, you’ll see how good she is.
