Remember the rank inflation in season 3? Everyone became a GM1 from nowhere and got egos. That’s the time when ow was getting the most toxic players around.
I mean come on why you finally fixed one of the problems and now you mess it up again?? what’s the point of adding a champion rank then? Are you going to add another one on top again after this upcoming inflation?
Why would there be rank inflation?
It could be downwards as well =) ? If it is upwards, then this all could make more sense: we are pushed downwards due to X factors (more penalties than bonuses, matchmaker?, etc) and then bumbed back up again. Let’s see what happens.
If everyone moved up, or everyone moved down, it wouldn’t make any difference. You’d still be in the same relative position.

If you take into consideration the wild skill gaps between players in the same rank, some redistribution of players might just turn out to be a good thing.
IDK how accurate what ever you are saying is - but it does make me think about and wonder if the recently banned 500,000 cheater accounts will have day 1 access to cheats again and how long us non-cheaters will have to play in relatively cheat free lobbies for a while. 500k cheaters is kind of insane, I’m gonna go out a limb and speculate (i got NO proof of these numbers) but some portion of those are just extra accounts from the same cheater so its probably way less than 500k humans (one cheater might have half a dozen smurf accounts, some might even be resellers with several dozen accounts) - but if you consider the 30k low average of players on steam alone I’d say there is probably around 100k people playing at any given time and 500k cheat accounts got banned and (HOPEFULLY) don’t have access to working/undetected cheats for what ever window of time it takes for the cheat makers to counter it - including (i hope) many smurf accounts so even people who cheat with their skill alone in low rank lobbies will be curtailed at least for a little while till new accounts are made and trained up to get into comp lobbies.
So yeah I’d imagine between that and the influx of new / out of practice people returning for next season will cause some level of ‘rank inflation’ for some people.
IDK just rambling here - i got no proof of any of this and everything I said here could all turn out to be wrong. I have no idea how the blizz formula calculates your skill anymore… even when it was simple an everyone had an outward SR number showing publicly they still had the hidden MMR behind that - now it’s just so confusing you can’t possibly know all the manipulation factors involved. I’m just gonna enjoy the cheat free lobbies

Arguably we had rank deflation at season 9 since the highest ranks were harder to reach than the devs intended.
So if they fix that properly, it shouldnt be pure inflation but normalization or something imo.
Keyword “IF”. Blizzard is notorious for overcorrecting not just in Overwatch. I suspect that’s how S3 happened. If I climb again from diamond straight to high GM I guess we’ll know how successful they were.
Im always stuck in plat or diamond every season so Im not expecting anything different this time. Even in season 3 I couldnt get to master so not sure how everyone is saying it was free GM. I didnt even peak in that season either I think that was around season 8 or so.
Even with Brig 1.0 I wasnt able to abuse her past diamond. The only time I ever briefly hit master was by 1 tricking Rein in ow1. So either it takes extra skill to climb higher or my account is rigged. I assume its not the latter so I would think anyone who did get GM during those seasons was deserving of it.
So we’re actually deflated atm.
Yeah LMAO and badly deflated. First game won and predicted rank is -1 rank from previous season. You gotto be kidding me.
as a newer player currently working through upper silver, i can say that the game has felt like it has significant downward pressure, and this is a problem because as i improve, i get limited time against better opponents.
it would be nice if there were slight upward pressure, so you have an opportunity to acclimate to playing vs. better players.
the last few seasons, i would climb to a peak, then the game would IMMEDIATELY put significant downward pressure on me and drop me division by division until everyone was so much worse than me i could hard carry enough games to stabilize.
it would be nice if the game let me play a few at the peak, and then only apply downward pressure for one or two divisions.

To be fair, there was about 4 people in gm last season. T500 might still be m1 but im not at my pc to check.

Did my 10 Support qualifying games tonight and ended up Gold 2 (was Gold 3 by end of last season so not much difference at all).
