A sweet silver-lining to Overwatch’s maintenance mode was a severe decrease in toxicity, yet it feels like 50% of matches in Overwatch 2 involve arguments, calling other people trash, blaming people through the scoreboard, ect. I’ve seen more toxicity in a week of Overwatch 2’s launch than the last two years of Overwatch 1.
After spending time playing OW2’s comp, I remember why people used to call this game out for toxicity back in 2018.
In trying to revive Overwatch, I feel like they’ve also inadvertently revived all the toxicity from when this game was an active comp game. Doesn’t help that, in throwing everyone’s ranks down, I think people’s egos are more vulnerable. The scoreboard, while pretty useful, is also probably a reason for this. Just mentioning the rank of the game could be insulting, to imply that they’re playing in the lowest rank in the game. I wouldn’t be surprised if my experiences of toxicity are tainted by all the people angry that they’re in Bronze 5 alongside me.
Some people turn off chat all together, which feels like it only further causes players to become annoyed when the team can’t work together, and makes those who want teamwork annoyed.
And now with no LFG, you can’t even find a group who actually want to suit your playstyle and vibe.
How’s your experience with toxicity been?

I m not a snowflake generation, so if I will play bad as hell, and somebody will say to me Im trash… I will not report him for abusive chat! Its done only by you toxic snowflake generation.

It is generally to the detriment of the team if they spend more time arguing than they are communicating. If the team is just trashtalking and arguing, how are they supposed to work together.
You’re talking to me like I’ve only played Overwatch. I’ve sat through the lives of quite a few multiplayer FPS. Shut up with your right winger nonsense dude, no-one cares.
I swear the bad grammar makes me think you’re a parody or something.
I think it’s inevitable. Also agree with you that popularity increases toxicity. Online niche games usually have very welcoming and non-toxic communities and Overwatch is anything but that. Maybe near the end of OW1 the toxicity was lower because of a relatively smaller player base, but now it’s terrible again.
I think OW1 was very forgiving, and OW2 is probably the same. People get away with really intense abuse. If there was enough suspensions and mutes deployed, we wouldn’t see so many people complain about toxicity.
If someone is just calling you trash and not doing to win the game. It’s toxic and it’s reportable.
It’s funny you call people snowflakes for reporting when you’re complaining that when people break the rules nothing should happen to them… that imo is someone being a snowflake.
I’ll report toxic people and move on. If they want to cry about snowflakes maybe they should read the rules they agree to or at least be a little more clever when they insult people.

Overwatch hasn’t been called out for toxicity anymore than any popular multiplayer game has. Unfortunately it’s part of online gaming, not specific to Overwatch.
reporting someone for abusive chat doesn’t make you a snowflake. Crying about it on the forums and acting like you’ve been stabbed by a few words online is what makes you a snowflake.
If only people just muted and reported instead of looking for attention everytime they got offended.

Usually i just ignore but if they start to insult my mother or family they simply crossed a red line and report them.
If only League of Legends had voice chat, then we’d see it reclaim its top spot as the most toxic multiplayer game out there.
I think the problem with Overwatch was a lot of people taking the game very seriously rather quickly. OW2’s launch has been a week and it already feels like we’re heading down that same path. That and the matchmaking generally making people annoyed. OW2’s soft rank reset has probably annoyed more than a few people.
A lot of people were banned in OW1 for toxicity because of the sjw/pc/lgbt who reported them all. But it seems like even removing majority of toxic players the toxicity still remains lmao. But this time its the sjw/pc/lgbt people getting at each others throats and being toxic. hehe Blizzard and its overwatch fanbase is just a mess of snowflakes who think banning people will remove toxicity.

Well, people are more likely to flame in text chat than in VC.
I don’t follow your logic. Are you suggesting that they should not ban anyone? If someone is being abusive and they get reported by a bunch of people, shouldn’t they be rightfully suspended or banned? If they are NOT banned, they will continue their abuse, right?

Ban system is absolute garbage. I got mass reported so many times as revenge from worst players I got suspended forever my first account!
You know LGBT people don’t all believe and think the exact same thing, right? They are like literally anyone else you meet in a multiplayer game.
“It was the gay hivemind who got me banned from Overwatch!”

Why is your name “Player”? lol!
That’s true, and I think LoL has a lot more downtime (50 second respawns, ect) where people are likely to be toxic to each other.
Overwatch doesn’t really have that, and if anything, its more of a distraction in Overwatch.
I mute the chat. Nothing gained, and nothing lost, Im just trying to have fun here. I’ve played mostly arcade and i’ve seen people playing and loosing their marbles as if their lives depended on it lol

Yeah, for Quickplay and Arcade I totally understand killing the chat.
But I’m personally all about the social interactions in multiplayer games, so its sucks to lose that aspect of the game, its part of why I enjoyed TF2 so much.
I want LFG back so I can find a 5-stack who are all chill, its a real shame Blizz killed it.
Its funny because you come on the forums to cry and whine about “snowflakes” that don’t even exist.
Such a sensitive little kid, stay off the internet if a forum post triggers you. Seethe harder

I would love to hear your actual response to someone calling you trash when you’re on the top of the charts. I was in a game the other day when someone kept spamming and shouting in game voice chat that they were carrying the whole team as a dps saying everyone was trash. They had less dmg and kills than everyone. There’s also those dps that just focus dmg the tank and feed the healers saying everyone is trash cause they had more dmg. It was quite annoying. Happens way more often than it did at the end of OW1. More trolls are going to pop up now that’s the game is free. Now reporting is a bit much on a simple dispute but there’s a level of toxicity that has definitely increased with OW2.
At around 10 hours of playing QP since rerelease, zero toxicity here.
But according to what you say, it seems that nothing has changed.
The lower you go in rank, the angrier gamers are.
During some time years ago, I had muted all comms and thanks to that, I rediscovered OW comp. It was a really nice experience.
Comms aren’t that useful until you start playing on diamomd+. And even there, you can play without comms and not lose much.
