It’s obvious to anyone who is not absurdly biased that support is the most entitled and baby’d role in OW2. The question is why? You would figure that dps would be catered to more since it’s usually the more popular role however with the change to a f2p model player count is not as important. The bottom line is this:
Support players spend more on microtransactions
Since launch the most advertised and overpriced skins have been from the support role. The reason is because support players tend to be casual players who don’t play the game competitively but mostly for aesthetic reasons. The most recent egregious example is the Lilith Moira skin. It may seem ridiculous to some of us but for the casual support player they’d gladly spend $40 on a mediocre skin from a mediocre crossover. Compare support to the most competitive role: tank. When is the last overpriced and heavily advertised tank skin we got? When have you ever seen tank players showing an overpriced skin? It’s very rare because tank players generally don’t care about such nonsense. Even for dps players it’s not as common. You’d expect with more heroes dps would see more shop skins but because they tend to be more competitively minded they don’t care much for shop skins.
With support though it is very common to see them using the new Lilith Moira skin. When Mercy life guard came out this skin was everywhere. The kiriko skin last season was very commonly seen as well. And there’s many more examples. As long as support players continue to spend money on these skins, the developers will continue to cater to them.
I’m calling it now. The supposed “nerfs” coming this midseason patch will be a joke. They will be slap on the wrist nerfs that do next to nothing to their overall impact. We will likely see no healing nerfs or nerfs to problematic abilities like antinade. They don’t care about balance or making the game function as a competitive or even fun casual experience. They will simply follow the money and right now it points towards making support the most over powered role.
No it’s because Blizzard always overcompensates every single time. The initial feedback from beta 1 was Support felt too squishy so Blizzard over corrected the problem and they are they deciders of games.
I thought it might be because they were afraid of a potential queue bottleneck, or because low-mechanical skill players are the ones who gravitate to overwatch so they made support role the designated easy role. But yes you are probably correct. They have multiple people working at Blizzard whose sole job is to calculate this to optimize transactions.
Well it’s been over a year and they’ve only recently (very reluctantly I might add) suggested that support might be a problem. I think it’s more than just poor balance but mostly deliberate as well.
I personally think Tank mains are the most catered to, and they certainly do the most complaining and have the most unrealistically expectations for the game and balance.
That said it’s hard to argue against DPS being the most catered to. Blizzard dropped 6 months of balance patches and ultimately fundamentally changed the entire game on an enormous level for DPS player’s benefit.
Yea, I agree to some extent, it seems to me that multiple of the most popular characters are supports (Mercy, Kiriko, even Ana).
So if the supports are the ones also “supporting” (wink wink) the game with money, whats the problem if they only receive a slap on the wrist?
I don’t see it as something bad to some extent, just like Blizz releasing more dps oriented heroes like Kiriko and Illari. The game needs more support players just like they needed more support heroes at the start of OW2. If the support players are the ones keeping the game afloat, whats the problem?
Also, I think everyone blaming the supports for everything is way out of proportion. Sure there are some tweaks to be made, but the complainers take it to unreasonable levels. Watch them go crazy if all the supports are not nerfed to be throw picks, all the nerfs in the world will not be enough for them and call it “slap in the wrist”.
we know that. its not even a mystery anymore. sup players found a safe place in ow. this is why you get banned for saying “you are bad” at a thrower but he doesnt gets banned for throwing game after game. the game is filled with casuals who want to chill and play aka sup mains and lets be real, most of them are mercy mains who occasionally play something else. since this game devs reward them with absurd balance, they keep playing and ofc they buy skins. tanks and dps dont even spend a dime.
devs trapped themselves. they cant escape now, they have to keep sups in the game. thus we will never have a balanced game. this is the reason they keep adding dps sups so they make more dps players happy but the outcome is more sups mains not healing. lol
It’s actually completely par for the course for Blizzard. See how long it took to actually fix Sojourn (they did everything but make the change they needed to), fix Moth Mercy, fix Hanzo rework, address original dive meta, and I could keep going. Blizzard is awful when it comes to actually fixing the problems they create.
Mercy players are easily the most delusional in the game. When OW2 launched blizzard made GA easier and there were actually mercy mains on twitter and these forums saying it was a nerf. When they buffed her healing a few seasons back they considered it a nerf as well. Now Mercy mains think she is weak because she doesn’t fit well in a brawl meta.
I had a comp game last night with 15k dmg on Illari. It’s so easy to land shots with her it’s insane.
