Ok so basically I’ve been hardstuck silver for a while I haven’t played a lot of comp because I would normally just get frustrated by leavers, throwers, smurfs etc. Anyway my friend who is plat let me play on his account and I won 8 straight games and got him into diamond with gold medals so how is this system fair?
Climbing out of low metal ranks can be pretty hard tbf, you pretty much have to play a more selfish and damage oriented play style.
Idk what heroes or roles you play, but the best thing you can do to climb is to adapt and be patient, just keep grinding and you’ll get there eventually.
im not trying to say your wrong or anything but maybe if you played that account for a while you would descend to your main account rank
maybe not lol??
thats what some people would say of course
just because you’re not enough of a detriment in platinum doesn’t automatically mean that you’re actually good enough to carry yourself in other metal ranks, especially when there’s so little to evaluate because your sample size of games played in platinum is just one digit.
I’ll take your experience as an honest report. On the flip side, personally I don’t worry much about it, I just like playing the game.
counter point
your hardstuck in silver because you are a silver player.
getting carried by much better players while getting lucky doesnt mean you belong in a higher rank, it means you were carried by much better players and got lucky.
if you were diamond as you suggested then you would have no issue climbing out of silver. one could argue you might struggle to get out of plat as a diamond, but the skill variance between silver and diamond is so high thats it night and day.
for clarification, getting carried can mean you were heavily enabled by much better supports, tanks or dps which can and will make your job alot easier (which ever it was).
anyone that has played at a higher SR knows that how you climb out of a low sr is alot different then how you play/climb in a higher SR. and this is alot of why players get stuck
someone might have really good aim and/or they may even understand certain higher SR strategies but what they didnt learn is how to adapt. and that skill is key too being a good player later on
it effectively filters out people who are only good if they are specifically spoon fed everything. if you cant solve the “how to climb” puzzle, then you are never thrust into matches you could potentually ruin.
I mean I had golds and I’m not sure why I don’t deserve it if when I play with competent teammates I can climb. Im gonna play some more on his account tmrw I’ll keep u updated
The placement system is skewed.
A former friend and duo partner of mine was a 3700 Open Queue player who placed an account in Silver.
Lost 4/5 placements despite him absolutely carrying to his fullest potential still wound up in Silver.
He was an incredibly gifted player, yet the system couldn’t sort that out in placements.
Medals aren’t really that important. I played a control map today as Mei where I clipped both enemy supports every time they respawned. Ambushing them and sometimes dps was the majority of what I did. I didn’t have gold anything. But I guarantee my team mopped up easily against an enemy with zero healing over 80% of the match.
nah, not until ‘‘alts’’ keep messing with ranks.
I think it is pretty unfair to call a matchmaking system garbage based on a sample size of just 8 played matches.
If you really think that you didn’t get placed where you belong, proof it by climbing out of your Rank and maintaining it.
There are literally thousands and thousands of examples of people who managed to do it.
As long as you don’t want to argue that the system is rigged against you specifically while it isn’t against other players, then you should be able to do it too.
So you think you’re actually diamond? no you’re not, if you don’t manage to get out of silver on your own for a longer period of time, you’re where you belong.
8 games don’t mean anything, play 100. then you’re back where you were.
as a mid diamond player i play you account in one day, no matter with which hero, easy until mid plat. From then on it gets hard, even for a diamond player
Are you really hardstuck though or just climbing very slowly? If your winrate is higher than 50%, you’re still climbing. This game forces you to grind so many matches to climb unless you’re a smurf trying to get back to your originial rank. Even for T500 players, climbing all the way from unranked to GM can take anywhere from 10 to 15 hours.
This is from unranked to GM too, which means often times they start from Gold or Platinum. If they start from Bronze, I’m willing to bet it can take them double or even triple that amount.
Yeah we all know lol. Has been the way for 6 years.
The game is and always has been too team dependent. You physically cannot win games unless your team lets you. You cant solo carry games or make enough impact to matter. You can get 3 kills a fight but if your team dont use that advantage then its all for nothing.
Hopefully ow2 fixes it but im not holding my breath. Yeah you have 1 less player so should have more impact. But i still see games where you will lose because your tank picked the ‘wrong tank’ and you lost because of it. I still see games where 1 person on your team goes ‘screw this’ and starts throwing and you still lose because of it
Personally i feel like the entire ranked matchmaking needs rethinking. In other games your individual performance makes up a much bigger factor in how much you win and lose. I play a lot of apex and in that game depending on how good i do i get more or less sr than my teammates. I go into games and get 6-8 kills while my teammates get 1 or 2 each and i get way more sr than them. Which is how it should be
But in Overwatch, it doesnt matter how good or bad you do, you will always win and lose the same as your team. You can carry the game and everyone on your team gets the same as you which is nonsense, you can have a thrower who makes you lose and they lose the same amount as you. There is 0 incentive to actually play well because no matter what you do everyone on your team will get the same as you. Which imo is a flawed system. Why should you play amazing and get the same sr as the person who did nothing.
That simply isnt a fair system. It allows for people to be boosted up the ranks by being carried. It allows for actually good players to be held back by their team. I think the perfect example of why this is a dumb system is the fact you are ranked on your personal sr, but your personal sr is measured on how well your team performed each game. Not on your individual impact. Therefore your individual skill is being measured actually on your team’s performance rather than yours.
if i had gold damage as a Moira i wouldn’t be exactly boasting about it.
Nah I mainly play genji but switch to mccree if I’m getting hard countered
You say that, my dps rank stuck in elo hell never went up after it was the same rank for years and all my other alts are the same rank that they always were for years and the rank I am always at on all gimmick competitive modes.
Long story short, do not throw down because some players are genuinely too heavy to carry. If you feel you do not belong in gold or below, and you care about rank, just use a new account. You will save yourself so much time.
UPDATE: day 2 I won 7/10 games In diamond it’s a bit of a larger sample size now ig
i almost fell to bronze one season, got low as 1600 (think it was 1610). was wondering if i would fall to bronze but i climbed back up to gold. i thought tho if i hit bronze… would i get stuck there?
this was during the open queue days
i also wonder maybe its different now, havnt played comp in almost two years so maybe with the low population ranks are more weird or the average has dropped lower in rank since everyone is a veteran??
Counter counter point I played again today and won 7/10 matches in diamond I don’t think it’s “luck” at this point I think this is an issue with the ranking system that has turned off a lot of the community to comp. If I played a lot more games of comp I’m sure I could eventually get out of silver but my point still stands that the system is horribly managed and your sr is determined by luck way too much for a “competitive game” an example of this is when last time I played comp on my main I won 6 games lost 4 except two of my losses had people leave when we were winning and one loss to a Smurf who admitted he was masters lul. And the last one was lost due to a thrower. That is why silver sucks.
