Public is fine - yeah the enemy team can see my heroes I play the most if they bother, but I can also switch them up mid match and so can they. They will eventually see who i’m playing anyway so ??

It is just a fallacy to assume that I have my profile private because I have a problem with showing people who I play and how well. I am doing it, in the interim, to avoid false reporting. It is as simple as that, the second it becomes clear that I am better of going public, I will as I have nothing to hide. I am just using the system to customize my experience, the purpose of it. If someone asked me to make it public in-game to confirm that I am telling the truth, I am sure I would. I just believe it is a decent filter to get rid of “initial toxicity.”

also i dont believe the whole “uh i got false reported and banned” story… i’m not the perfect player yet i didnt get a ban since the new report system. people who do not play with their team will get reported by me regardless of their profile status.

It is possible. I am not entirely convinced, however. Most people are quite vocal about their discontent when I play Widow and yet, as of the update… Not so much. Do not get me wrong, that is definitely logical and I assumed it would be the case, but in practice, I am not really feeling the effects as of yet while testing on an alt. I will probably put my main (this) on public later today just in case they are silently reporting, but there are no drawbacks to testing it on an account I assumed would have already been banned by now, to be completely honest.

There was nothing wrong with stat stalking before matches or checking the SR of someone in QP just to find out you are playing against a GM.

We can’t even check the stats of enemies or allies to prepare team comps. Now Heroes are going to be taken from the shy member of our team just for them to play something we didn’t know they couldn’t play, and something we would have known they couldn’t play if we could see that they were a Mercy main.

The feature is completely unnecessary. The true solution is for people to brush off insults from random strangers about their stats, or something even better could include implementing features that punish players for stat flaming instead of implementing user choice private profiles. You might ask, “Why should people change when the game can change instead?” and I ask, “Why should that poor shy-guy I mentioned above change because the game did?” It goes both ways, I’m going to ignore and flag trolly statements like this. The bottom line is that this feature is going to do more harm than good.

At the very least, make the private feature more friendly to the relevant game-mode and hide all the stats that aren’t relevant to the current match. Just let us see the stats that are relevant to the game-mode that is being played. If it’s QP, let us see their QP stats, if it’s Season 77 competitive, let us see their season 77 competitive stats.

Another solution is to treat viewing career profiles like the privilege of texting or speaking in-game. Make all profiles public again and remove the option to private them. Add a reporting option for stat-flaming/bullying/whatever and if a player is reported for this enough, they will lose their ability to view career profiles for a while. Just like the refined toxicity reporting features alleviated much of the game’s toxicity, from my perspective at least, when players realize that they can get banned from viewing career profiles, many will cease to stat flame. This would change the culture of the player base just like the refined reporting system did. I believe that turning the culture of the player base away from stat flaming with the reporting functions is a solution far greater than private profiles because it will alleviate even more toxicity in the future. Everyone will benefit from a positive and gradual change in culture.

If the goal of this feature was to help alleviate toxicity, it’s going to end up making it worse.

Toxic people will always find a way to talk CRAP. It’ll change from “Oh look, a mercy main on DPS, greaaaaat.” to “I bet this gosh darn bad DPS is actually a mercy main xD, hiding his profile like a little silly goose”.

Seriously though, I have no sympathy for the people who say that they were “forced” into a support role and that’s why this private profile should exist. Instead just toughen up, ignore the big bad meanies online who want you to play mercy, and simply lock DPS. Either you’ll be good enough and climb, or won’t be good enough and lose SR.

I think blizzard really messed up on this one, especially in regards to competitive play.

Making profiles private has decreased the ability to play around one’s teammates. For example, sometimes a teammate will insta-lock a character whilst having little to no time spent on said character. But, more times than not, they will have a bunch of hours on another character and can be convinced to switch over with a bit of polite suggestion. Or, one can look at a few different profiles and try to set up combos based off of what their teammates are good at, often times to great success.

This update killed all of that strategy. And it is especially difficult now because people are not always willing to offer up relevant information, or worse they do not have a mic and thus their time spent responding takes up time from the actual game play. Not to mention the sheer amount of info one can go through if everyone’s career profile is public. I.e. win percentages, previous season’s pick, etc. To think that this all can be transmitted, digested, then utilized effectively is unreasonable.

All this to say, I hope blizzard listens to reason and rescinds private profiles from the update.

Anyone else have some thoughts on the matter?

Good players are ones that are honest and transparent with their teammates. If you have nothing to hide from them, then just show them what you play. Hiding you profile just hurts team chemistry and can have a negative impact on building the team comp.

If you want people/dont care about people looking in your career profile, you can easily turn it on by Going to Options - Social and then on the list you will see make career profile visible.
