The Problem with OW2

Alright. I’ve played Overwatch Classic. The balance is all over the place. But, it feels way more fun. I mainly play DPS, tho I flex to the other two roles when needed. I was trying to put a finger on the reason why OW2 has felt so awful lately.

I think I get at least the biggest issue, at least with DPS. To be blunt, DPS as a role has been slowly shifting towards everyone having one of four different playstyles for a while: Tracer, Soldier 76, McCree, Reaper. If you don’t fall into one of these four playstyles, you eventually will slowly find your main drifting towards having one of these three playstyles, or will have your hero nuked from orbit so they don’t have to deal with your hero again.

To be blunt, the role has been slowly getting more and more homogenized, and it’s making things way less interesting. Everyone feels more and more the same. Nobody feels like a hero. They just feel like another Walmart Tracer or Walmart McCree. It is everything Overwatch stood against.

It’s, by nature, anti-Overwatch.

People keep saying this and I still don’t see it

You should at least provide examples and categorize properly. I’m thinking of Widow, Pharah, Junkrat, Mei, Venture, and Symmetra all being outliers. Meanwhile, Sojourn is a new character and wouldn’t be fair to say is homogenizing thing.

Only one of your varied options is a new hero. Everything else has been more of the same or frankly terrible (LW)

They’re talking about characters becoming similar to others and none of the characters I listed are similar to characters they listed.

Also get good

Widow is the one example here that is legitimate, but I guarantee she’s very much in danger of just becoming ‘mccree with a scope’ sometime in the near future, if this community has its way.

Pharah was made more into Sky Tracer.

Junkrat is not a good hero.

Mei was made more into just an icicle-based cross of Reaper and McCree.

Venture is just Tracer if you mixed her with Doomfist.

Symmetra is not a good hero.

Man, you really have your categories wrong. Tracer and Reaper are in the same category as flankers. Soldier 76 and Cassidy are in the same category as mid-range damage. The other categories are long range (Widow, Ashe), Close Range (Mei, Junkrat, Symmetra). Subclasses of DPS are basically sorted by range, which is why their archetypes overlap.

The original bases, though, is the characters are all based on Team Fortress 2 classes. Soldier/Heavy, Scout/Spy, Sniper, Demoman/Pyro.

Yeah, but why are some heroes constantly drifting towards other heroes’ playstyles more and more? (Sombra 76, Tracer Pharah, etc)

It’s anti-overwatch

Okay, now I know you’re trolling.

See, you’re being very vague and just saying that because characters fill similar roles, they’re the same. Also that bad characters don’t exist I guess.

Like, Pharah is sky Tracer? What does that even mean? They’re about as different as Hammond and Mauga are, but those two tanks both have dual chainguns so they’re the same right? No, not at all

I’m literally a Pharah main. Been playing since OW1. I objectively know better than anyone.

I’m saying they’re drifting closer and closer to being the same instead of being 100% unique like they should be.
