The problem with Mei

For Mei to get any kills, she relies on enemies making positioning mistakes.

Mei doesn’t counter close range enemies at close range.

And she doesn’t counter medium range enemies at medium range.

And she doesn’t counter long range enemies at long range.

And she doesn’t have tons of mobility that allow her to ambush enemies outside their preferred ranges.

I’d also toss in: her defensive ability leaves her vulnerable, her denial ability does the same to enemies, her mobility counters are easily outmoved, and despite being built to wait around and stop a push she has no method to handle a second target. Her kit doesn’t accomplish what it sets out for pretty much anywhere

In my opinion Mei is a great counter to genji and Dva. Shes also a great off tank almost and i find her pretty viable. Her ability to punish people for being out of position really hard is honestly one of the greatest. Esp when youre paired up with a team that has communication.

She only counters dumb Genji’s that waste their dash.

And she has nowhere near enough damage to down a D.va. Granted, great for assist, but not gonna full on counter a D.va.

not to down a dva, but to freeze her, wall her off and then have your team pump dmg into her mech. I play dva a lot and mei is so frustrating to play against haha

But like I said above, she doesn’t actually hard counter anybody.

Hmm honestly i’d say widow because a widow in really cloe combat (unless they have like amazing flickshot skills or their luck level is 10) cant do much to a mei. Also ana tbh, unless she can find a sleep dart on you and find her team. Idk i’m just saying i dont think she needs to be buffed right now but i dont htink she gets picked a lot so maybe she does need one. I dont have any clue what she could need though.

Widow loose a 1v1 close ranged to a pachimari, nothing special to a Mei killing a sniper at close range.

How?

She can isolate anyone, but it’s not easy if whoever the target has an mobility ability and they save it for escaping. I also play D.Va a lot but I don’t see Mei as a threat on par to any other character.

hmm i mean ana because if shes out of position ( this is mostly at lower ranks honestly) you can punish her really heavily cause she has no escapes. (this is if she doesnt land her sleep on you)

honestly i dont really think mei is about hard countering as much as really punishing ANYONE out of position. the ability to wall somoene off from their entire team reguardless of their escape abilities is so huge. It’s just like roadhogs hook in a way but with meis wall you can sometimes make it so youisolate someone and they literally cant go anywhere.
that being said, Mei’s ult is good if you can actually get people in it lol. its realy only good for zoning or if you can trap people in which i find is really rare

Maybe you’re not seeing my point. But this is a good example.

Widowmaker usually will not attack your team at close range.

If she does, she’s either desperate of making a horrible positioning mistake.

Mei currently has to rely on enemies making bad positioning mistakes.

Mei shouldn’t need to rely on enemies making dumb mistakes in order to get kills.

The problem with Mei is people rage with losing their movement. That happens in any game. From Mario platformers to any fighting game.

That’s not a Mei problem. That’s your problem. You find her “oppressive” ? Then learn to play better. At some point we need to balance the game for balance and not for “fun accessible to everyone!”

I mean I’m not complaining about mei at all, just stating my opinion that i find her annoying when im playing dva.
Never said anything youre implying lmfao

yeah thats tru Grey thats tru. I’m wondering what they could do to buff her? I mean the more ice spike thing was a nice change.

unrelated/kindofrelated this one match this mei repeatedly camped out spawn and it was a nightmare omg LOL. She like got into our teams heads and were afraid to leave spawn every time and she slipped past us every time like?? she would let tanks walk by and prey on the healers it was so evil LOL

As mei your job is more of a disrupt.

Get in (especially with your rein or mcree and reaper) freeze the enemy and get kill with dps help, split enemy team in 2. get ana/mercy/zen away from their dps/tanks and push in hardcore to kill them in 4 seconds. Shield breaks and kill healers when it opens up. Works very well. Mostly protect healers in backlines/mid, and push front if and when needed.

Then switch to Zarya.

This entire game is about switching heroes, not guns or loadouts, did most of us forget that?

boi why are you trying to pick a fight with me i just stated an observation i’m not saying that i dont switch or anothing like that jesus christ

If anyone is out of position, hook is almost every time a better tool, and Roadhog is good outside of punishing those people.
Also, when I see a D.Va diving with boosters, dm and rockets, I can land a hook on her and put all those abilities in cooldown before she enters a distance where Mei can freeze her, even sooner to when she actually freezes her (which I think takes 1.5 second hitting her, that after she gets close enough).

Does she need to hard counter anyone?

She can be a thorn in literally anyone’s side. She can wall off a sniper’s sightlines. I’ve managed to beat a Hanzo at mid range. She can one shot Tracer. Her primary goes through deflect and dm. Her wall can split teams, instantly winning the next fight.

If ANYONE gets into the wrong position against her, they lose and lose badly. I don’t think any other hero can claim that.

I mean, I’m no expert, but she seems like a good hard counter to Sombra.

She can get out of hack instantly by freezing herself. And should she choose not to do that/not have that on CD, she can start freezing Sombra with her primary fire. Which will either end with Sombra immediately retreating or dying (unless Mei has bad aim).

Extend her primary range or reduce the delay time of her secondary.
