First patch of Overwatch 2, and its already looking like ow1; the devs get feedback on what is wrong with their powerful heroes, and they make ludicrous changes that don’t target the problem at all.
What was genji’s issue? He was way too fast. With the dps passive, his blades and general ability to chase were way too high.
Their solution? Nerf his damage to make him feel like garbage.
What was sombra’s issue? She’s way too easy to attack supports with. She can move around completely freely undetected without punishment, and even if she is detected she can just Translocate away. This made her difficult to deal with for supports because she feels like she’s constantly in your teams backline.
Their solution? Nerf her damage to make her feel like garbage.
We are already starting Overwatch 1 balance again; ignoring feedback and making random changes that do way more harm to the targetted heroes than necessary.
Isn’t this why we have experimental? So we can provide feedback on changes? Oh wait they didn’t even put the patch there.
Season 2, watch sojourn get like a slide nerf. Maybe an AoE reduction on her grenade. Any betters?
Nerf utility or damage? Hmm going to have to go with damage on this one.
Characters should feel good to play - nerfing damage just means you have to try harder.
And removing that ridiculous jump at the end of Sojourn’s slide is a good start, though yeah, in that case too removing damage from her E (or just taking it away altogether and just make it a slowing, area denying tool) would be better.
so what i think that happened w/ sojourn being missing from the patch notes was that she’s only op in higher ranks and they didn’t have a nerf in mind that didn’t destroy her in lower ranks or they didn’t have a nerf that they were happy with or they were working on a nerf that is more than just a stat change and the game in the state that it was they didn’t have the time to actually finish it
and yes we can be cynical and say she’s a new hero and they didn’t wanna miss out on the profit coming from people who are regularly playing her and that’s also valid
Sojourn is top DPS in almost all ranks though, e en before the patch, except maybe in bronze, silver and maybe not be the top dog in gold, but even there she was present. So not balancing her bcs she is not played in ranks below Masters is just a lie.
They said they balance the game top-down, so she’s a clear contraddiction.
I understand she’s less OP at lower ranks: how often does this happen? Don’t tell me Hanzo, Soldier, Widow, Cassidy, Ashe are all performing the same way in every rank. Haven’t you seen a bronze Widow constantly missing shots? Then she should be buffed or what? Yeah let’s make all body shots critical too because bronze Widows can’t aim.
Symmetra’s current state in the game has made a lot of players feel upset and powerless. We hope this cosmetic change that makes enemies hit by her level 1 beam start laughing from being tickled will help set aside those feelings.
They are looking to change the DPS passive for the coming seasons but felt as if they had to do something now. If the passive is changed later they might revert the other changes.
