Back when this patch originally came out, people had such high praise for it. It was the patch that it seemed like everyone, or almost everyone, agreed was a huge improvement and the right direction for Overwatch.
Going back and playing it again, it isn’t very good. Like, I don’t know what it is about memories but they can betray us. And I think this is one of those times. I just think that, as weird as it sounds, the game is actually a lot better now than it was then. I know how that sounds, but after playing 3 versions of OW Classic now, the only one that did it for me was the very first one because of that nostalgia hit.

You want the truth? It was fun enough to bring Seagull back and an observable improvement over the last update so his content creator buddies hyped it up. It’s just way too easy to manipulate the perception of people who cannot form their own opinions. That’s reality.
Is the game better now? Hell no. They made Hog prison currency. That being said, the rest is probably better now. Idk. Don’t care.

I think at the time it was a great patch. Certainly helps that it was just after double barrier was hard meta for so many months. But after being used to ow2, I just enjoy it more. So I did my challenges, and won’t be touching it anymore. I was originally a person who was pretty indifferent to ow1 vs ow2, but after playing enough of these classic modes, and now one that wasn’t some awful meta. I just prefer the current game.

I prefer Overwatch as a whole from 2016-2018. Those were the glory days as far as I am concerned. It started showing weakness in 2019 even before role queue killed the game. Everything after that was stable, but Overwatch Dos has been more enjoyable than the dark ages overall despite having one of the worst launches of any game ever.
I thought it was done at that point. Surprised it made such a comeback and even survived the onslaught of Mahvel for 6 months when it was on top. Heck, Overwatch was already somewhat better than Mahvel at the beginning of this season to be perfectly honest, but Mahvel is finally at the end of its rope. I guess. Overwatch Dos has proven itself beyond a shadow of doubt.
It still has a lot of problems, but hey, at least they won’t gut Genji. That’s nice to know…

Obviously it’s bad if you got double shield in it.
You still have the DLC heroes that ruined the game Sigma, Brig. You take those 2 out of it and it’s pretty solid besides getting ran over by Rein, Zarya, 2cp is garbage
The thing I love most about it is the old TTK, no stupid season 9 hp changes and ofc old flashbang
I think it’s a bit more complicated
Personally I see the vision and how this patch was incredible. However this patch was great for the masters+ competitive players. Until we figured out tracer was busted because Cassidy was struggling and meta shifted to ball sigma.
For the quick play experience this is the patch is…fine, I really would have liked a true double barrier patch but that’s just me (yea I’m an evil person who loved that comp) but I guess this will do fine.
Goats hit for only the very first game because the lobby actually mirrored goats
Then from there it was just doomfist and everyone else trying to play goats which was really lame

The OWC mode is better than normal OW2 is basically every way. I legitimately cannot imagine how people like OW2 more.

Me who just wants to play a version of sombra and pharah that aren’t watered down shadows of their former glory.
You know
Back when Supports weren’t the only role allowed to have interesting mechanics?

Nah, it doesn’t sound weird to me. I’ve always thought that praise for Oct 2020 was nostalgia at work. Yes, it was better than Aug 2020 Gigahog, but that is the lowest of bars to step over.
I think that in light of hero bans, using Sombra to promote OWC is pretty much an own goal.

More likely an extended break from the game was all that was needed to ‘bring Seagull back’. Particularly since there were… other things happening in 2020 that might have made a familiar game like Overwatch seem especially appealing. Dude was burnt out, balance was basically irrelevant.
A lot of us pointed this out at the time.
Ultimately, whether one particular influencer does or doesn’t want to play Overwatch matters very little to me.

I think part of the like… Disconnect, at least for me, is CC tolerance.
I was way more used to hard CCs back in 2020, they were normal and just abundant enough that you had to be used to being stunned and killed without even a chance to escape or fight back (unless the CC was Hack).
in OW2 they killed basically all hard CC: Flash, Whip, Freeze on Primary, the entirety of DPS Doom ect. I’ve gotten so used to softer CC that the just bam return of plentiful harder CC is so much more frustrating than I remember, and I remember it being frustrating.
I’m still able to enjoy it. Mostly for the old GA and a lack of Soj/Freja, but you main D.Va don’t you? Isn’t this still during her post-GOATs papermech period?

She got that armour back in Dec 2020 so yeah, she should still be FeeD.Va unless the devs have just snuck an historically inaccurate buff in there. I hated having a co-tank D.Va for pretty much all of 2020.

I remember her being awful to play with and as for a good stretch after GOATs, and she evaporates in the Classic patch rn so I figured as much.
It would be a bad patch to want to play D.Va.

I really don’t miss the very limited tank/support pool. I played a few games (mainly tank because queue times) and one of them I dropped a 50 bomb just to lose and my dps going 10-18 to call me a slur. Maybe I hold winning on a casual nostalgia mode too highly, but losing a ton of games where I’m doing a lot doesn’t feel good to be harassed by gold-bronze players.
The only fun in these modes is going tracer/doom and farming noobs not that actual gameplay from back then.

Samito was the one that was always yapping about this being such an amazing patch, but I never really felt that way about it.
There is a good chance that it actually was a great patch for his elo in particular, which was like, what, 4200-4600? I never quite made it past masters, lol, so it may have just not affected me, but I feel after seasons 3-6, the balance of the game was always in a steady decline, and there never really was a good patch after that.
6v6 and old hero kits + systems are better in 80% of instances. Support bailouts were fairer, we had actual anti-dive, and defensive kits. All an improvement from homogenized kits in live.

I haven’t tried it since I was expecting it to be another version of DPS Doom and minions vs other DPS Doom and minions.
There is no story context anymore, it’s just some game.
It’s also not ranked so most maps are not fair and there is nothing to play towards.
Yeah expected more also. But honestly we’re used to all quality of life improvements, ttk changes, hitbox changes.
That it’s kinda odd to go back to the older versions.
But what’s funny about it is, people just wanna play dps doom, no one wants to play tank. And there is so much hard CC in the game that you barely able to move around without getting punched, stunned, booped or slowed around.
Peak garbage with little to no skill involved.
And people are praising it like the coming of christ.
