I am a returning overwatch player after about 2 years off the game. I was around 1000 SR in the last season which I believe I deserved to be in. Since OW2 got released I was excited and committed myself to playing ranked seriously. I trained hard, practiced my positioning and aim every day. Played comp for 4 hrs a day and I ended up placing in Bronze 5. Mind you I lost like twice during my placements and I had top elims (I play dps) almost every match. It was disheartening but if I didn’t complain and I just kept playing and top fragging, I would IMPROVE. I mean if you are really good and actually contributing to your wins why wouldn’t you rank up? Truth is I aimed to be BETTER player not a high ranking player. After ONLY TWO days I went from Bronze 5 to Silver 1. All because I didn’t cry on these threads nor blame my teammates for losing. Truth is everyone here complaining about being Bronze 5 probably deserve to be there. Truth is if you’re too good for your rank, you wouldn’t be in it. Truth is Bronze 5 is a rank you can easily carry if you can somewhat stay out of the enemy sightlines and land some of your shots. That’s the reality
Weird take to a flawed system. Not taking away from what you’re saying but the TRUTH as you put it is 25% of the population is being pitted against another 25% of the population to duke it out in a single ELO where the winners of that will “rank up” If you’re anywhere from bronze to plat you’ll start there, which is 4 different ELOs of players. Thats like being in junior league hockey and half the time facing Varsity teams of players. Your solution is to constantly go round time after time hoping the experience is better the more you play which is the flawed part because of the bleed over in skill among 4 different ELOs into now one, at least for the time being while being matched to a 50% loss rate. So what you’re saying is people should dedicate even more time to this silly fallacy without any guaranteed results instead of addressing a crap system that needs changing, cause any way you look at it, its a crapshoot.

Blizzard said they’ll do a soft reset not a hard one… Also players that PLAYED like plat players placed somewhere around high silver or gold. I have no idea were you’re getting your information from.

You’re talking in the past tense like none of this has already happened, which it has. You take plat players from OW1 (deranked to gold for this example) which is within the 2 rank threshold making up part of your team while you sit on bronze 5. All 10 players ARE NOT at bronze 5 per match my friend. You are paired with people anywhere from bronze to gold right now to make up that 5 player team. So even if you struggle out of B5, you’re still gonna be playing with em from time to time. Shroud (the god of aiming) is sitting in Silver right now, Summit1g is sitting in silver right now. What do you think that actually means?
I don’t get it I am an actual proof that a player who is 1000 sr can climb in 2 days. I’m not special nor do I have insane aim. All you’re trying to do is say bronze players are too sht to rank up and the complain about the fact that they can’t rank up. You’re also exaggerating the soft reset. Any actual plat player is going to rank up with in a week. If you think a system is trash because it took a week to sort itself out then I would love to see what ranking model from other games you think are good. I also don’t care about where Shroud placed. Aim alone doesn’t mean sht
Idk bro just play comp it’s still SR based it bugged out and placed people in sub 500 which is why they didn’t rank out after winning so much. They should now tho since the issue has been fixed. I placed plat 2 and climbed to GM 4 in a couple days literally just grind comp I know that sounds absurd but put in effort and you will be rewarded like OP said. Not everything has to be blamed on a bug
Shroud had the same issue in OW1 his aim is amazing but his game sense is awful and it’s prime example of how game sense actually is one of the biggest factors to player success mechanics definitely help but that mixed with game sense will definitely put you above the other players in your rank
The system was broken lol. They said it.
They purposefully downranked everyone (I presume for a false sense of progression) but a bug was KEEPING people in B5.
I got placed silver 4 and now i’m back in plat… But… Why?
Shroud is a god aiming. But doesnt mean hes gonna be a god in OW. Hero’s got abilities that change everything.
the new HIDDEN ranks are absolutely DISGUSTING and DISRESPECTFUL of players time and value.
ALSO the rank system still has the exact same 1-4500 score in the background covered with a different UI and conversion. you can lose 19 games and win 7 at high rank and lose rank.
Lol I watched shroud play OW and he’s actually bad at it. Aiming, he’s insane at, but his general OW knowledge is virtually non-existent.
Also I don’t totally agree with this. I think the system needs work, but for me personally, not seeing an SR number pinging about reduces my anxiety in competitive games. With the old system, I was often afraid to even play comp, so I just stuck to QP. I’ve played comp this season more than I have since like season 3.
as far as i can tell, you dont mind the system because your climbing.
I went from placed diamond 5 and went to diamond 1 in 3 updates with a barely positive winrate.
its less transparent, losses feel meaningless and the complete lack of feedback combined with ranks not being visible makes the mode feel hollow.
Agreed this was intentionally not accidental at all. If Legacy players come back and play but new players who are f2p play comp they loose to Bronze legacy players by game sense alone, so to fix that…simply place everyone low and reset the ELO expectations for each rank…hence why we don’t have a top 500 atm. Blizzard wants you to carry the team or get so discouraged they chase legacy players away and get new sheep they can manipulate
Never have been a big fan of Shroud. Most of the content creators are really good at one game and suck at others. I got to play against a few OW peeps in Apex and they didn’t do so well… I placed all 3 roles in Bronze 5. I have already raised Tank and Support to Bronze 2. Have not done any DPS as I am playing Koriko in preparation for comp.
if a majority of the games are not competitive, especially in competitive mode… the system is broken. there should not be a requirement to grind a climb to have decent games.
Even if you do well your not going to rank up. 82% winrate for Lucio after 30 games. 94 games 52% winrate during the platinum smurf event and i’ll still getting Bronze 5 updates. This game is toxic to force players down to keep dumpstering on low bronze players.
