The new ranking system is awkward & unrewarding

its both visually and honestly a great system dont get me wrong, but the rank progress really kinda sucks. theres more loss penalties/bonus’s then there are wins. if you win, you could potentially get 3 win bonus’s as 2 are about not being favored, but for losing there are 4 potential penalties you could receive. specifically volatile, that penalty feels VERY unneeded and just penalizes you for losing a game thats out of your control as the match maker is VERY one sided.

in-order for competitive to feel absolutely amazing and better than OW1, you HAVE to change the match maker to not favor one side over the other (the way it works right now). running a competitive system based off which team is favored or not is basically granting one side an advantage over the other instead of placing players against each others skill rating.

it just feels very bad, and receiving 3 loss penalties at the same time reducing my progress by 49% is genuinely insane. i dont see the point in penalizing people further for having a loss streak as it just discourages the player to keep on playing and for some it just tilts people. the new system is SO close to being perfect, but things like this just needs tidying up. sometimes less is actually more, and removing the unneeded loss penalties will objectively make it feel more encouraging to continue playing.

which ones do i need think removing?

  • Volatile
  • Loss Rate

i highly doubt removing these 2 would cause something like rank inflation, because with the way the match maker works, losing 5 matches would be enough to keep somebody in their respective rank.

im just very tilted rn and this is just a rant, but the match maker just genuinely ruins the flow of overwatch’s gameplay.

This has been the biggest problem with the ranking since the beginning.
You are not being ranked for skill but for how well your team is doing.

Also this is not a new system. It is how the game always worked.

i mean the card system being replaced with the new one.

I’ve been playing for years and I genuinely don’t want to play ranked anymore before of this. I dropped two whole ranks while playing the best I ever have

the game doesn’t account for you stopping the team from touching the point with a mei wall, for example. how can you honestly trust that this system even measures anything remotely skill-based? the game clearly forces people to be certain ranks, not have competitive and balanced teams

The ranking system basically always worked like this ever since they moved away from the elo equivalent, the difference is they’re showing you what goes on in your favorite restaurant’s kitchen.

i actually dont know if this is true because no one struggled to climb before and now you have GM/top 500s being stuck in diamond with 70% winrates because they arnt sweating to force a 80-90% winrate

thats WILD

it actually might be a full rework of the system, or at the very least they tweaked some values for how certain things are caculated such as the volatile one
