I’m late to the topic, but I think the new leaver penalties in unranked / casual modes are unnecessarily harsh.
The way I see it, Overwatch games are extremely short. Most are only 8 - 10 minutes long. In unranked & casual modes, it’s usually easy to find a replacement player in seconds to minutes, at almost all times of the day.
I just don’t really understand what’s the point of having 5 minute / 4 hour / 2 day bans for a game like this in its CASUAL mode for leaving or disconnecting from a 10 / 11 minute game.
Like, I could understand for a game like League of Legends where its casual mode can be 30 — 45+ minutes, and you can’t replace a leaver at all because of how a match scales & progresses over time, but OW QP isn’t like that. So I guess I just don’t really see what the big deal is.
Overwatch is so fast-paced and matches are so swingy that quickplay leavers rarely matter. And even if they do, you just go next. It probably takes less than 2 minutes to find a new game.
I dunno, i just think that the penalties they have now for QP are fine. There’s zero need to be so heavy handed with leaver penalties in casual overwatch QP. It’s just not that serious. This is not League of Legends.
Competitive is a different story. Put in all the leaver penalties you see fit for that mode. But otherwise… is it really necessary?
Which is why people should stop quitting so often when they are losing. It will be over quickly anyways.
Majority of people also don’t want to backfill into a game.
A 5m ban is very short. Hitting 4 hours or more and that is leaving 30% or more games. At that point why even bother queuing up to just quit so often?
Personally I am fine either way with the 5m penalty being added or not. And the 2 day ban is pretty much non existent. Anyone to get that totally deserves it.
I think that anyone who’s getting in their feels about having to backfill into the defeat screen for 5 seconds before going next is taking this game way too seriously.
I’ve had my fair share of backfills into losses, but re-queueing is quick and you even get priority if you backfill. After your 2nd or 3rd game, you probably won’t even remember that you backfilled, at least I don’t.
I’ve had my fair share of games where despite being backfilled, we won. And yes, there are losses too. That’s just the reality of playing games. You can’t win them all. And in casual mode its just not that serious.
Not all leavers are leaving because they’re losing. But even if they are, you can’t control how people behave. Even after these changes go live, you’ll still have to learn deal with them.
Most are. And those whom actually have irl events happening are a one off or people who need to prioritize what is important. And no, i do not have to deal with them. I can advocate for rules to be put in place to punish those whom engage in behaviors that are negative. Ive advocated for leavers penalty simce ow1. Im glad its finally a reality.
Right. Just like outside of games there will be people who break the law. The punishment for breaking the law is a deterent. Just like the leaver penalty is a deterrent.
But im glad you were able to cut out a little bit for a tiny gotcha. Bet you snapped your fingers when you did it.
This is not even close to the same level of severity. It’s a QP of a mostly casual game.
We have leaver penalties already and I see no need to make them even more harsh. This only appeals to the quickplay tryhards.
What’s the big deal if the down time between the defeat screen and the next game is <30 seconds? You can’t control other people’s behavior, but if you’re whining over backfill in a game like overwatch, you have way too much time on your hands. We all have to deal with it. Just take the L and move on, its just a normie game.
By tryhards, you mean people like me who try to win? Even though in qp i generally dont play optimally unless im getting 0 value from what im playing? I still want to win. And someone coming in the game, just to die and ragequit because they felt slighted for w/e reason, taking their ult charge with them, its like… why even queue? If you rage in a game for whatever reason to the point you quit, why bother even having that game take up space on the hard drive? You dont like the game, clearly. And most of the playerbase doesnt like you.
If you’re thinking like this in quickplay then you should be playing comp. The majority of people playing QP aren’t thinking like this — and they shouldn’t. Because it’s a normie mode. So yeah, this appeals to people like you. Go play comp.
And just so you know, you won’t win all your games there either! You won’t be able to stop leavers there either, even though the penalties are way more harsh.
There could be all sorts of reasons to leave. QP is not so serious that you need to be dogmatic about forcing people to stay at all costs, that’s why people play it. Our current penalties are more than fine. Save the heavy handed punishments for comp.
Let’s not be pedantic, QP and ranked are hardly the same mode. One is for goofing around, one is for being serious. You can’t change that.
I do play comp. I also play quickplay to learn characters i dont commonly use so that i have more options when i play comp. If you cant stick around to play a game of unranked that outside of two game modes (that you can leave in the first 5 seconds of without penalty) that take half the time of a comp game, dont queue. Again, its unranked now. Qp fun time is arcade and customs. Play that.
I’m sorry, but no lmfao. The majority of people queue-ing for quickplay just see it as a fun, casual thing to do. Even the devs see it as a less serious mode (hence the reason why they’ve been using it lately to test changes to the game like respawn timers, double trouble, etc.)
You are taking this game way too seriously and people that sweat like this in QP make the mode less fun for everyone with their dogma. If you can appreciate QP as more relaxed environment to learn new characters then you should be prepared to accept the fact that it isn’t comp, its not meant to be taken seriously, and its better for it because of that.
Save the sweat for comp and let the rest of the casuals enjoy the game.
