The most direct way to fix Matchmaking?

Push the game in the direction of the Equalizing the Queue Times between Roles.

That way there isn’t a scarcity of players per Role, leading to ELO mismatches.

It also provides more leighway time for the Matchmaking to “cook” a bit longer, for better quality.

I just say PUT A LIMIT ON HOW LOW A RANK YOU HAVE TO CARRY for other players’ expected to win matches.

I go on one or two wins and notice how some players shouldn’t even be with high gold to low plat with me.

Like I’m sorry Blizz, but I eat these kinds of players for breakfast why am I expected to carry them if they can’t hold their own weight?!

Haven’t had a good match in a long while now since the season started.

Do you notice that the Tank players are a usually the ones getting mismatched?

If there isn’t enough Tank players, then they gotta match them across a wider ELO range.

Oh my God…that makes so much sense and is horrifying. Because tanks are quitting harder then dps or support right now because we are reduced to passive meatshields.

Like tanks got hit the hardest and yet we got dps and support being vocal about how they need to think under pressure or suddenly need to play as teammates in a team game.

We didn’t have this issue before role queue :tea:

“But people would just go 5DPS in my games before role queue!”

They still are, they just have a shield or cross next to their name now :tea:

You’re not wrong.
Tbh, it is a tradeoff.

Personally, I’d like to see a version of Open Queue that doesn’t have GOATs.

But I also don’t think they are ever going to remove Role Queue.

How do you propose that be done?

My personal solution to GOATS was similar to what they did in S9 with the healing nerf, but less splatty. In short, diminishing returns on healing while in combat that ensures combat won’t last forever or that any comp is “immortal”. But we’ve got a lazy implementation of that now on top of flex players being dead.

Oops thought this was on the thing.

Start with a Quickplay Hacked that’s only for Open Queue Quickplay.

If it goes well, entirely replace existing Open Queue with that mode.

Give Tanks 30% Resistance to effect/duration on status effects and all CC (except grapples)

Give Tanks 30% Resistance to Headshot damage

Give Tanks 20% smaller head hitboxes.

Adjust HP values as-needed

I don’t know about this. Adding more blanket buffs to the roles is only going to further the imbalance in the game.

I honestly think removing all the role passives except for the tank’s current role passive would be a much better solution.

To me, “Balance” is a very specific concept.

And I don’t know what you’re talking about.

How is giving Tanks a blanket buff, going to reduce the worthwhile and unique choices within the Tank Role?

Mauga’s small head already looks stupid on his gigantic body and you want to make it smaller?!?

(Not an actual criticism, but his model is seriously ungainly since the last time they shrank his head).

You’re probably not aware of what the hitboxes look like.

It’s not going to reduce their choices; it’s quite the opposite.

Not every tank is going to benefit equally from the blanket buffs that you’re wanting to give them (imbalance), like Ball For example, he’ll benefit way more from this passive than, say, Orisa, who already has a fair number of ways of dealing with the CC.

I’m aware, but seems like they also actually did shrink his head. But maybe he just looked stupid before and I didn’t notice.

That’s kinda the point.

“Face Tank” Tanks have a lot of struggles with the game. And this is a structural change to minimize the gap.

Beyond that, you just do fine-tuning tweaks for tierlisting.

MacroCalibration before MicroCalibration is the #1 Balance design rule from the most senior balance guy at Riot for the last 18 years.

That isn’t how that works, if you make tanks wait longer dps has to wait longer can queue times are based on the defientcy of a role…

2 ways to fix matchmaking is to either remove role queue and tightening the range of of mmr player can match with which would lower queue time in response

Or just tighten range of mmr range for match which will increase queue time, look how long high rank player need to wait for some game… 1 of the reasons i don’t care about climbing

Yeah, sure, this balancing philosophy would work just fine if the Overwatch developers had the microbalancing down, which is definitely the key to retaining a fine balance with this philosophy, but unfortunately, the developers haven’t done this.

For example, let’s say we implement this new passive you suggested for the tanks into the game right now. Do you honestly think the developers will fine-tune each individual tank so they’ll all benefit equally from the new passive?

I’m going to go ahead and say no; they wouldn’t do this. Why do I say this? It’s because we already know they’re incapable of doing this.

Oh you poor naive little boy/girl. If only it were that simple. Oh wait! It is but not in the way you want to accept
