The 'moira problem' is players, not the character

Moira is one of the most balanced heroes in the game. She literally needs zero changes.

The only problem with Moira is that some players play a dps Moira. This play style is throwing just as much as battle Mercy - it’s just harder to spot.

The developers have already confirmed that battle Mercy is throwing, so we can safely assume that dps Moira is throwing too. Just avoid, report, and move on.

Apart from a few players who use her to troll, Moira is in a great spot and doesn’t need changes.

Arguable, but mostly because she’s one of the worst hero’s in high elo. Essentially being a heal bot that can be denied the ability to heal outright with d.va in every game eating her orbs and barriers blocking her from building charge. That’s without an Ana anti nade either.

She’s much easier to play than the other supports besides Mercy, so her effectiveness drops as her opponents get better. That’s how balance should work.

got a link to this statement?

then if dps moira is throwing, her damage potential shouldn’t be so high. i need a way to avoid the “BuT i HaVe FiVe GoLds” Moiras.

That’s not balanced at all. That’s actually advocating for a hero to be useless.

I think she became a little undertuned with the barrier nerf. I think she should be able to heal through barriers or dva shouldn’t eat her orbs

With apologies, I dont see this link as relevant to this specific discussion

No, she’s pretty weak, really. Complain all you want about “Battle Moiras”, but they don’t really exist on the large scale. Moiras are desperate to refill their gauge because they’re useless without their healing, but if the match goes into a poke-fest, Moira has to take risks to continue healing.

People who want to DPS as a healer would just play Brigitte.

I personally think Dva should be able to eat damage orbs, as it is the “defense matrix” but it shouldnt as I see it be able to eat healing orbs

They specifically said behavior intended to disrupt competitive play is bannable.

If that doesn’t include locking a healer so that your teammates can’t pick them, and then exclusively dpsing with that healer, then the developers statements have no meaning.

Just so people don’t have to copy and paste it.

Here is what it says for those that don’t want to click it.

After investigating a number of the cases that have been surfaced over the past 24 hours, we can confirm that the system is working as intended.

None of these were simple cases of “one tricking” or off-meta hero selection. These were examples of behavior intended to disrupt Competitive Play. As such, the punishments will stand.

To be clear, specializing in certain heroes or playing off-meta heroes is not bad behavior on its own. In fact, we actively encourage people to be clever with their team comps and work with their teammates to counter the enemy comp. Teamwork is important and should be considered when making your hero selections, especially in Competitive Play.

We take these kinds of reports very seriously, along with your feedback. We’ll continue to fine-tune our systems, and we apologize for any confusion about the way that these policies have been communicated.

Same tbh. When she ate my healing orb the first time, I was soooo confused.

If a player plays a character poorly, but are not intending to be disruptive, this is not legitimately reportable.

“Intent” is a key word in the definition.

Further, I was asking about the “battle mercy” statement made earlier. the linked post had nothing to do with battle mercy

exists up to plat
and thus a problem hat cripples 80% of the community
and thus the hero is the problem since she enables this cancerous playstyle

To me, Moira is just a poor creation of a hero. Moira just pees away healing and tickles out damage. No utility. Moira should stay where she is since she is an easy hero to pick up if someone is new to Overwatch.

She shouldn’t be buffed to become one with the pro meta. Instead she should be left alone and stay as a mediocre hero design.

A thought exercise:
A hero who’s stuck in spawn, has 1 abilty that deals x amount of damage to all enemies and has a cooldown of y seconds can be 100% perfectly balanced when x and y are chosen well. Is this good design?

My point is, being statistically balanced doesn’t justify bad design. In the case of Moira, her design is so bad that she basically has a flat skill curve. She overperforms at low ranks, but underperforms at high ranks, simply because her design doesn’t allow much versatility.

Funnily enough, the heroes with the blandest design are usually easiest to balance because there are the least variables to take into account.

And this is not even talking about how a support hero encourages playing like a dps (which could simply be solved by making her weapon work differently).

If a player is contributing to a team’s chances at victory, but not doing so in the way YOU (another player onthe team) think is best, then that is poor play from your perspective.

Poor play is specifically noted in the rules for reportable behavior as not being reportable

I feel like this is mincing straws. Picking a main healer and refusing to heal is more than “poor play”, that’s being disruptive. If two people lock Ana and Mercy and spend the entire match shooting the enemy team and never healing then that is throwing, period…
