The MMR System Undermines Fair Competition

The MMR matchmaking system in Overwatch is a serious problem.

What does a fair game really mean? Is it truly fair to force players into 50% win rates by manipulating MMR in the name of helping less-skilled players enjoy the game?

Today, I had an absolutely dominant performance in multiple matches, yet I lost 7 games in a row. That’s when I realized: no matter how well I play, I simply cannot win. I’ve now uninstalled Overwatch and deleted all Blizzard apps and files. Until the MMR system is fundamentally changed, I have no intention of ever returning to this game.

A proper ranked system should naturally let skilled players climb and less-skilled players fall. But the current MMR system tries to artificially keep everyone at a 50% win rate. This is deeply flawed. Why are good players being forced to carry to protect others’ win rates?

Even with great stats, even with high eliminations, I was repeatedly matched with teammates who clearly were far below the appropriate skill level, making winning impossible. This isn’t a skill-based game anymore—it’s luck-based.

Here’s my suggestion: remove the MMR system and just allow random matchmaking within each rank. Skilled players will naturally rise, unskilled players will fall, and everyone will eventually land at a rank where they have a natural 50% win rate—without any artificial intervention.

But MMR disrupts that natural process and gives players the disturbing impression that developers are interfering with match outcomes. That is not fair competition.

Players feel this is unfair.
Let individual performance truly impact match outcomes.
MMR actively prevents this and creates frustration for many players who just want a fair, skill-based match.

Real fairness doesn’t come from hidden algorithms
it comes from real competition among players of similar skill.
Please remove the MMR system and let Overwatch become a game where players can win or lose based on their own performance, not on artificial matchmaking manipulation.

What do YOU think it means? What overwatch does is try to take 10 people of equal skill, and put them in a match together.

Do you see the flaws in your statements? How did you lose 7 in a row if it is forcing you to win 50%? Did you win 7 in a row before that? And if so, how is it that “no matter how well you play, you simply cannot win?” Nothing you are saying makes any sense.

Good. goodbye
