In my opinion, I feel the level requirement to play overwatch should be 100 or above. This way newer players are placed in ranks that are better tailored to them and discourage smurfs. Does anyone agree? Please correct me if I’m wrong.
at this point I’d try level 50 first, rather than 25.
I don’t see why not, but I feel people severely underestimate how leveled smurf accounts are nowadays.
I think it would help flush out new players, yes.
Smurfs? No. You can buy an account anywhere for $15 at any level, even above 100.
It should be 500. Comp is very important and it’s utterly vital to gatekeep it as much as possible
No higher than level 50. Level 100 is too much. To get to level 25 for an actual noob is probably like 20 hours and that’s with the faster leveling up at the start. To get to level 100 would probably take close to 100 hours. And that’s still not including possible XP penalties for leaving games.
I’m pretty sure comp shouldn’t even exist at this point. The entire ladder system needs a reset and restructure.
If anything, the matches should be entirely based on your MMR. Many comp matches and players make no sense based on their rank. Like there’s a huge divide between the top of a rank and the bottom of a rank in skill, and those two players may end up on the same team. Yet they still end up on the same teams and against the teams of players who are far inferior or superior, all bound to the same arbitrary level 25 number that binds to accounts.
Let’s be real here, the ranks are a mess, and the entire system is built on something people ranked at before they understood the game. All paired with the same types of level 25 players that may or may not have understood the game at the time.
Id say 75 would be the best, but at this point even 30 would be better than what we have
Maybe there should be like an intro comp, comp 101 and levels 25 - 100 play there, with a seperate sort of SR system, then they can graduate to the big kid’s comp area by doing a second series of placements to establish what their true rank is.
50 hours to play a game mode? You do know that most people don’t even play a game for more than 10 hours right? This would kill the new user base. And OW needs more players.
At this point make it 9000.
Your power and your level must be over 9000 to play fomp.
Just get rid of comp. The word “competition” implies rules, fairness, penalties for cheating and bad play.
The game is nothing but smurfs trying to ruin everyone else’s games at this point. They soft throw, or sometimes just obviously throw a few games and then get to stomp other players for their tiny thrills.
No competition would allow and support cheating. OW and it’s devs do.
Level 25 or 200, it doesn’t matter. In my view, the problem is that the Overwatch leveling system is not intuitive enough to prepare the player for competitive mode.
Think of it this way, a new player starts Overwatch and begins playing Quickplay, Arcade, or Deathmatch where gameplay is chaotic enough to just go solo and do your own thing. None of those modes encourage players to group, or defend, or push, or play off choke points. None of that is intuitive, but it’s required for climbing competitive.
Compare that to a game like League of Legends, which teaches it’s players the fundamentals of the game through leveling up. When you begin playing LoL, you learn very quickly that you need to group, because you’re weak at early in-game levels. You learn the map, because there’s only one map. You learn not to tower dive, because you die. You learn basic team play strategies through the leveling up process, because you’re forced to use them. So, by the time a player makes it to ranked mode, they know how to group, how to team fight, how to use other players to their advantage and it makes for an experience that actually feels competitive.
Compare that to Overwatch competitive, where half your team doesn’t even understand that they need to wait and regroup after losing a team fight. And your tanks don’t understand that a tank’s job is to make and take space. And why would they, when they’ve been playing Genji on Deathmatch for 25 levels?
The only solution that seems to make sense is to implement a mandatory trial mode that needs to be completed for each role before entering ranked. Follow and stay close to Rein while he takes you to the point. Don’t go past the choke point on defense. Take the high ground when it’s safe. Wait to regroup. I’m not talking about advanced Rein tactics. These are very basic gameplay strategies that a lot of players don’t know, but should.
MMR shouldn’t dictate it as there are many things mmr doesn’t take into account. Especially with heroes like Sombra. If you want to take out either side, take out mmr. If you are winning matches, that means you are doing something correctly. The biggest thing is that it needs to stop trying to even the teams out the way it does. If you have a God healer, it likely means you’ll have bad dps, because to make up for the healer with high mmr, it’ll place them with dps/tanks who don’t.
Making comp available only after level 50-100 is a great way to ruin new players experience and basically not have any effect on smurfs. Leveling up to level 25 is around 15 hours of gameplay or more.
It’s so easy to say, pls make level limit higher as you have played this game for years. You guys don’t realize, that we are getting new players every single day. Why frick over new players
MMR is still the same as it was in 2016, they didn’t even reset it in start of 2-2-2, so the system just guesses your tank rank is very similar to your support rank. Even though you haven’t ever played support role before 2-2-2.
Got a couple of silver boarder Smurfs myself for just playing at different elos with friends
What about multiple tiers of competitive that unlock for each new color portrait frame?
- Bronze border (1-599): QP + Arcade modes unlocked (default)
- Silver border (600+): Role Queue Competitive unlocked
- Gold border (1200+): Open Queue Competitive unlocked
- Platinum border (1800+): Minimum level requirement for Contenders
- Diamond border (2400+): Privileged access to the official Overwatch developer Discord
- Secret border (????): Special invitation to become an Activision-Blizzard board member
Smurfs buy pre-leveled accounts. It’s an actual market.
blizzard wont do it
they can but they will not doin it
because they know that this game sucks so hard outside competitive mode
and new players wont enjoy it
but its gonna be more expensive
