The matchmaker is a mess

Why suddenly the matches feel so unbalanced in QP? In the first minute you can tell the skill level difference. Is it because there’s few people playing? What’s going on? The game was not like that.

I love Overwatch, but the more time it passes it’s becoming more frustrating to play. It’s always something new making hard for me to enjoy this game anymore.

idk, there are times I can tell my teammates aren’t bad, it’s just that sometimes people don’t click :/. Everyone’s on a different page. It doesn’t feel worse to me lately or anything. Maybe you’re just going through a badluck spot :/.

Quickplay is rough to balance, as a lot of people go to QP to try characters they’re not super familiar with, so someone who is really good in comp, could be trying a new character and suck lol

I think this game doesn’t have many people playing anymore lol. There is absolutely no reason I should be matched up with someone I reported for gameplay sabotage 3 times in a row in QP.

For one, it’s overwatch. It’s only replayable beyond 100 hours if you’re one of those angry people who desperately needs to prove they can reach diamond (or if you only have friends who are those kinds of people).

Second, yeah, fewer participants. I’d say “players”, but who’s actually launching it for the experience anytime later than 2017?

Third, blizzard cares about gaining money first and saving money second. All other considerations secondary. That said, it’s not been rare for smurf accounts to be a huge part of the incoming funds, and they’re quite aware. Between that and the ceaseless negligence of bugs and cheats, alongside the loot box system that still manages to exploit how desperate some people can get (yes, as amazing as that is), I’d bet they’re happy to leave their money machine as it is.

Among other smaller things, yeah, it’s not hard to see why so many people have not only dropped overwatch, but actively distance themselves from it. Personally, I like to dink around in it once every couple of months and just listen to people and their fits of rage in the pursuit of avoiding fun.

Got in one. Overwatch is a 4+ year old game. There hasn’t been much new stuff for a while now.

The game is like this for a long time.

If you want a serious match, play competitive. It keeps the matches fairly balanced.

The quick play matchmaker is BASICALLY off.

Best guess?

It’s not a lack of players.

The constant stream of new unrated accounts that play like a platinum/diamond rated player has thrown the rating system into chaos so it thinks it is creating balanced matches when it actually isn’t.

Competitive resets every season so it isn’t as messy. Quickplay hidden-mmr never resets, so it is probably not even close to accurate anymore.

The match making has always been trash, and it mostly stems from blizzard dealing with the interaction between stacks and solo queue poorly. This was a massive problem with starcraft 2’s team match making, and they devolved from that point to here.

Blizzard was self-aware enough to realize people were catching on, and removed the ability for you to know who is on a stack and who isnt, but the end result of craptastic matches is still there. When you see low levels, they are in a stack, that is how you exploit the match making, they dont solo queue with the smurf account.

Match making has always been bad in this game. Couple that with trolls, derankers, smurfs, etc although that;s usually a comp thing. QP is a disaster bc of the sheer amount of personalities in there. Some don’t take qp serious, some do. So if you’re the unfortunate player on a team with more people with the “it’s just qp” mentality or that one trick that is playing a hero that servs no purpose on a particular map or situation but absolutely refuses to change even if they’re getting dumped on while the other team is actually doing the right things you’re going to have a bad time.

You should see the matchmaking on EU between midnight and 2pm, basically not enough players to fill games fast enough so you’re put in games with a 600-700SR gap in the team, in ranked.
