The last oficial OWL YOUTUBE video is a joke

Owl oficial youtube channel was Talking about what will be the next meta on owl?

You guys are crazy?. The stale metas are the worst part of the owl and Contenders…

Why do blizzard, talk about the meta as if it was a good thing?

WE DONT LIKE TO WATCH THE SAME 6-8 HEROS FIGHTING AGAINST THE SAME 6-8 HEROS ON ALMOST ALL MATCHS

Just put the hero ban system on pro leagues and stop the joke.

(Sorry for my english)

Let’s be real: The sheer existence of competition breeds metas, which are the issue.
Metas simply have sucked all the fun out of every game ever.

Yeah but the other games have hero ban system and those game try to do something against the metas.

Also cod disable some weapon or items on competitive.

Well, Jayne tried out those protect/ban Pro PUGs on PTR.

And if they really wanted to do a Ban right now, they could just make ShieldTanks be unbannable.

Or perhaps only go for a 1 hero ban, total. But have it where one team picks a ban, and the other team picks a map.

I like the video. It perfectly sums up what happened in the first owl season.

“what’s next, the goats meta?” WHAT??? It’s been GOATS for months!!

Unpopular opinion: I like watching a defined but flexible meta, where variations come from individual preferences and crazy, but rehearsed set plays. No clear meta means that everyone kinda runs around and does their own thing. More often than not that leads to people getting roflstomped 0-4 by the more boring strats.

Oh definitely. But systems like that only work because the games have expansive loadouts/characters; plus they often rapidly gained a lot more. To put in perspective just how fast the volume alone can become a problem, IIRC believe LoL started with ~40 characters, and that roster literally doubled within a single year. Meanwhile I believe we’ve gotten 7(?) in ~2.5 years.

Simply put, such things don’t work with Blizzard games.

OWL didn’t have GOATS comp tho. The season ended before it grew in popularity.

Jeez, it’s really been that long? Man.

I would rather not have a hero ban, but I agree with the sentiment that METAs of all types are terrible.

This is a really critical thing most people screaming about “MUH META” miss.

Playing mystery heroes into a well-crafted and executed GOATS or dive is what these people seem to want, but there’s a reason those comps are successful and Most Effective Tactic Available.

Paladins and raimbow 6 have hero bans and they dont have a lot more heros than ow.

Meanwhile Dota 2’s entire 115 hero roaster got picked in the last international, tons of different playstyles, ideas and whatnot.

Blizzard somehow cannot balance 29 heroes. Same 6-8 heroes every game.

Dota 2 having 115 heroes is a monumental advantage it has over Overwatch in terms of diversity in compositions. Lots of possibilities exist with 100+ heroes in terms of counterplay. 29? Not so much. 29 heroes is not even remotely close to enough heroes to encourage any meta that isn’t the same heroes again and again, and with their current snail paced release schedule, that’s probably going to be the case for the rest of the game’s effective life time.

It does help that Valve actually listens to suggestions when it comes to balance and isn’t afraid to admit mistakes and outright remove mechanics or entire heroes if it means the core gameplay is better.

That’s because the devs spend most their time nerfing the game to death.

A META is always going to exist in a game like overwatch because there will always be a set of compositions that just net the most wins overall. What you don’t want is a META based on a single composition.

You’re like a bronze hanzo player. You completely missed the point.

The point was despite seeing 115 heroes in dota, every single on has been picked, since the game is that balanced. In overwatch we only have a handful thanks to balancing issues.

The main issue is as you pointed out the extreme slow changes that blizzard are making and downright refusual to admit they are wrong as well.

Well the video isn’t wrong. It’s just explaining what a meta is.

Everything has a meta. Not even just video games but I mean everything. Monopoly has meta to it. There is a best tactical play to it.

It’s almost unavoidable. Even games having hero bans or weapon bans there will still be a secondary fall back meta. That both teams will pick.
