The higher elo is degrading

I am a top 500 support and dps player and have enjoyed the competitiveness of higher elo games, but recently I’ve seen the skill level and just overall awareness of these top 500 players has just dropped. I also see a large amount of actual top500 players being forced down into masters. I’ve seen GM players playing like plats managing to throw games and not being forced to drop. I believe this problem is due to the recent matchmaking, queueing nowadays is like flipping a coin, you’re either lucky or unlucky. But sometimes this luck system has allowed low masters players to miraculously boost all the way up to gm where they don’t belong and forced high Elo players down. I would rather wait long queue times to get teammates that belong in my rank rather than be forced to carry players that randomly go from 3500 to gm in one season. I’m sure that any top500 and GM player can vouch that every single game there is at LEAST 1 player that just doesn’t belong there and that 1 player decided if you win or lose the game. The game should not be decided on whether or not you get the players that belong in the rank or the ones that got there by sheer luck. Every game shouldn’t be completely onesided, I hope that they can fix this because it is quite obvious when someone doesn’t belong in the rank based on their performance and the mass amount of gameplay sabotage reports they receive. Thanks for reading my rant

I do agree that a lot of the high Elo players have left the game, I too have thought about quitting multiple times due to the state of the game.

You can always try new games like Rogue Company. I recently quit because of lack of communication from their end and poor decision making led to instant dereliction of the game.

I wish I could quit, for some reason, this game is like a drug for me. I despise it yet still continue to play it, I have recently started playing other games to stop me from tilting such as LoL, osu, Valorant, and Minecraft.

And that issue drive people who belong in your rank to do ‘‘alt account’’ and play in gold/plat games sadly.

Is the same for people in lower ranks like me (gold dps here) where sometimes are put into games with and vs people that are almost diamonds

the comp mm is literally the worst one.

kinda the same but is the lack of alternative, I was a LOL player but the community there give a good challenge to the ow toxic community

I think a lot of it is just easy meta after easy meta. Where it’s just pick the right hero, instantly profit.

Priority passes and tanks just suck right now. many dedicated tank players (like me) don’t enjoy the game right now. Half the tank roster just explodes / does no impact in the game. Not all of us are god WB / sigma / hog players. A lot of us play rein, winston, dva and zarya, but they just plain suck right now. I haven’t played rank in a long while, but still play quick play in hopes that it’ll get better soon. I’m even close to dropping from master in this account since my heroes aren’t even remotely good. These past seasons have been GARBAGE for main tanks.

I KNOW, after sigma’s big nerf I have seen some more winston, zarya, and dva being played but if in the wrong hands they’re useless and can end up losing you the game.

In my opinion a lot has to do with what heroes are meta and not. Someone may be 4200 on Ana, but only 3800 on Brig. They climb and fall entirely based off of whatever is meta.

Take me for example. I consider myself a pretty solid 4200 on Bap, Ana, and Moira (also a few tanks/DPS but I’m focusing on supports here). On the other hand I haven’t been able to crack the playstyle of Lucio or Brig. If I’m obligated to go one of those then I’m not going to perform as well, period. What I’ve started doing to get around this issue is cycle between accounts depending on the meta. My alt account has drastically different heroes played and is typically a solid 400 or so SR below my main. If someone doesn’t have that luxury I can easily see them dropping like a rock then rising like a balloon nearly every patch.

I notice that your tank/DPS are quite low relative to your support, proving that you’re not quite the same on every hero in the game. But in the support role itself can you honestly say that equally proficient on every hero, and that you’d be exactly your current SR if your top heroes weren’t meta? If not, I think you’re being a bit too judgmental in your rant.

Last season I ended slightly under 4.4k on supp and nearly hit 4.4k on dps until I hit a massive drop. I do agree that I do have my strong suits on support which are all the aim intensive heroes Bap,Ana,Zen. I’ve recently regained a lot of my dps sr but the problem I can’t solve is how is it possible for my dps to even drop down that low? I spent countless hours in aim trainers and just practicing my aim while vodding my gameplay and correcting mistakes. I was confident I was preforming and many time’s over-performing just to continue losing. As a player that has been Top 500 countless times it was frustrating losing while you are certain you’ve been performing.

It’s extremely difficult to dive in with all the burst damage. Zen discord + mccree fan the hammer deletes monkey if the stun connects. zarya bubbles don’t even last its entire duration anymore. With all the poke and spam damage in this game, dva gets demeched with her giant head hitbox. Even when played in the right hands, the heroes themselves are just bad. Imagine diving zen and bap guarded by a mccree. Lamp, discord, flash, boom dead immediately. That’s if your leap wasn’t pushed off by ball, stunned by sig, coach gun by ashe, hooked by hog, or just get deleted by a damage boosted hitscan. I’ve only ever been master, but I’ve seen clips wherein flats and bogur just get shredded faster than they can react. There’s also this clip with SVB playing rein and gets instantly deleted with bubble. The damage and damage modifiers in this game are crazy, and I firmly believe that some of the tanks you have in games right now are just people farming priority passes and NOT dedicated tank mains.

I do find myself smurfing in lower elo’s after a stressful run on my main acc. I usually smurf in masters but recently have just been playing with lower elo friends to prevent myself from tilting even further.

Sad to read, but probably true. I seriously hope that once they can re-focus their efforts to Overwatch’s PvP and hero balancing they just crack down and mass-fix problems.

I mean I don’t share that thing you do but reading this op I can understand, once I was even Diamond as tank…

but well, now ranks are literally meta forced

(btw I like ‘‘kim no na wa’’ too :stuck_out_tongue: )

This is what it feels like in Diamond for me.

I feel like at times an even winrate is forced with games in sequences of unwinnable → unlosable → unwinnable → unlosable rather than two given teams that feel closely matched and the game comes down to mistakes or innovation at critical moments.

Maybe I’m wrong, I don’t play this game enough anymore, but Competitive doesn’t really feel like I’m competing, at times it feels like the match is predetermined before anyone can even leave the spawn doors and that wins and loses seem to have little correlation with how I play as an individual.

I agree,

sometimes I have to play against 3000+ SR ppl that just droped into plat again.
But I am only 2500 SR (high gold)

That is like throwing the game, I am Genji OTP only thing I can do is go McCree if they carry to hard. Because this Hero is perfect to disable carries.

To be honest, you are talking about the same thing that a lot of us have for years. Stuff like this has been present in all ranks and all modes for quite some time.

You getting these situations, Where the matchmaking is so poor that you end up on teams where the members are ranks apart. And it basically boils down to which team has the least amount of “dead weight” (either legit low ranks or boosted players that don’t belong in that match) and/or the most amount of “carries” (Smurfs or legit higher rank players).

Stuff like this, happens a lot especially in the arcade and quick play where the matchmaking is almost non-existent and it’s really a roll of the dice when it comes to what kind of teammates and enemies you will have. And even in competitive, where the matchmaking should be better, it’s still bad. This is brought to you by a system that allow bronze players to queue up with gold players and gold players to queue up with Diamond players, if the SR is close enough. And that’s before we even talk about the issues of Smurfs and those that are boosted and things like that.

In short, the matchmaking of this game is an absolute mess. It has been for a very long time. And because of that, match quality suffers big time. Like many have said on this forum, a lot of the times games feel like it’s either “You stomp” or “You get stomped”. Neither of which are very fun, in my opinion.

It really does feel like that constantly.

Recently it’s been very rare to get those close games that I love so much. All games are one-sided you’re either on the winning team or the losing team.

Each team should have a fair chance at winning instead of constantly queueing and praying that you were on the good team.
