The General Discussion forum is pointless

Can anyone point me towards a case where the discussions on these forums have had any form of impact on the decisions made by Blizzzard?

Discussion is pointless!

Only if influencing Blizzard is your goal in discussing things here because, yeah, that’s not gonna happen.

It can be used for that but it requires alot of things to line up enough people have to take interest in it the discussion has to get to a point where influancers take notice like streamers and youtubers which only tends to happen when it gets quite heated. Unless ur raggtagg cause he makes it heated just by talking about it.

These forums are to talk about stuff but be careful, the mod’s feelings get hurt very easily.

The general discussion is for Overwatch related discussion, and if this forum was used for getting tips on how to play certain heroes or how to play certain comps I could see a use for the forums. Such threads, however, are extremely rare.

Most of the topics are focused on complaining about or defending certain heroes. If such threads have no impact on the decisions made by the developers then the threads are pointless. The vast majority of threads are therefore pointless!

It could have been.
But they didn’t care enough to push out the trolls before they poisoned the atmosphere.

You need to foster good behaviour and you will get a community that self-polices. But that takes money and effort without immediate returns, which the ultra-greedy Activision does not like.

Which is a very good and very bad thing.

Like yeah, some people express the worse balance changes. But robs those that just ask for bug fixes.

Discussion is fun and involving. Esp. here, it is more fun than logging into the actual game atm.

And no, I’ve not seen such a trail from discuss to to balance change by the devs. Well except maybe people screaming about Mercy and DF then bringing out the presidential entourage for Jeff when Jeff or someone else posted the nerf notes lol.

Well, if that is enough then that’s ok. Nevertheless, I see all these threads with complaints, cries for fixes/buffs/nerfs, and I get the feeling people expect those threads to have any effect on the game; It won’t… if you enjoy the discussion itself then go for it, but don’t expect any impact on the game to come from any of it.

Everything is pointless unless you are pro top player

I complained about Sombra’s hack not going on CD when interrupted. Suggested it be put on a 2 second cooldown when interrupted for counterplay. It was added the next patch without going to PTR.

stoopids whined about torb and sym on general forum and now they are ruined.
coincidence? :sunglasses:

I don’t believe for a second that it had anything at all to do with your post on the forums. It’s likely that some professional or youtube streamer shared your sentiment and that Blizzard listened to them. Unless you actually had a reply to your post from a Blizzard employee I don’t think you contributed at all…

You can believe what you like. But I saw no Youtuber or Streamer make this suggestion. I was also one of the many Lucio mains that complained about the Speed nerf on the PTR changes for Lucio and those got reversed.

But you are free to believe whatever you want.

Lol nailed it Makware.

Good to see you btw

And I appreciate your reply to this thread. While it is difficult to prove whether your post contributed to change being made to the game or not, and while our beliefs differ, I do not wish to discourage you.

It is not as though they are being catered to either. Some decisions are definitely for the top level of play; however, if it were up to them, there would be just as many, if not more changes than you want.

I’m sure the discussion here as well as elsewhere do impact how the game develops, just maybe not always noticeably

However, Doomfist did get nerfed not long after complaints about him started to increase in density here, so I would say that was a time probably

I am not sure how you can say that when we have periodic posts by Geoff Goodman and Jeff Kaplan along with devs as well in response to comments… they definitely read the forum. Naturally, it’s one of several things they look at including pro and streamer feedback.

I have to admit it would be nice if Jeff kept a thread going where her sometimes answered questions and had a routine dialog… it would help tremendously in establishing a sense of community.
