The game still won't start [PC]

For real, what’s the f!"#!% problem?!

I’ve updated my gfx drivers
I got my windows up to date
In game settings have been reseted about 950 times
I have scanned and repaired about 950 times
I have closed every process running in the background
I have restarted my pc about 950 times
I have googled how to solve this about 950 times

I HAVE DONE EVERYTHING AVAILABLE TO ME FOR THE GAME TO START.

And here’s the funny thing, the game has started. So i have played it. But once i close it its a gamble if it will start again.

EVERY OTHER APP/GAME/PROGRAM ON MY PC WORKS AS IT SHOULD APART FROM THIS GAME.

So please do not respond something like this “Have you tried rebooting your pc”

What about uninstalling and reinstalling the game completely?

Done that about 15 times as well

Did this just start happening recently?

As in, is it a relatively new problem for you that’s been happening today only, or since launch, or since OW1…? How long have you had this problem?

Does the game actually show up in Task Manager when you try to start it?

Started with Overwatch 2,

Played OW 1 since start without any issues what so ever.

The “Overwatch application” appears in taskmanager when i minimize or close the battlenet client. If i have the battlenet client up it wont show.

Do you still have Overwatch 1 installed? That apparently causes massive issues.

If not, Try doing a manual wipe of Battle.net (Blizzard) from your PC and fresh installing. By this, I DO NOT mean clicking “uninstall” as that does not properly uninstall the programs. Go into x86 and DELETE anything blizzard related. Afterwords, Go into “Documents” and delete any blizzard game information such as “Overwatch” for me i also have Wc3 and SC2.

Now, Go do a fresh install.

i’ve done this as well

You’re not using a MAC by anychance are you . . ?

Could you define what happens when you press the play button?

Affraid not, PC. Got a macbook if that helps?

This would be a big help. Just saying it doesn’t work, doesn’t really give us much to work with.

Look up on the Event Viewer on Windows to see Application tab and if you get an error message, specially from auth.
Try to right click, open as an admin, from the exe directly, when the Bnet app is open.

Either nothing happens, or the game “launches” and both my monitors go black and then it canceles the startup.

Not sure what to tell ya then, Sorry sounds like Blizzard goofed something as usual.

What exactly happens when it doesn’t start? Error? Crash? Nothing? What kind of drive is it on? And maybe try moving it to another drive to see if it works.

First things first:

Disable fullscreen optimization in the execution files properties. Full screen optimization can often cause a whole host of issues especially if the application is being run in fullscreen mode.

Also make sure this isn’t a firewall issue. Ensure that Overwatch isn’t being blocked in your firewall settings and always run as administrator.

When last did you update your Visual C++ Redistributable? This is one other possibility. If you haven’t updated your Visual C++ Redistributable files in a while it can stop certain games and programs from running at all.

Good luck

This happened to me and a reboot did it.

I know that you did all the things you mentioned so I’m not going to tell you to go through those.

Instead, start killing processes on your computer one by one, starting with the ones that you can tell are not relevant.

Close a process-> try to start the game

And so on.

Chances are there’s some process colliding with OW and it thinks it’s a threat (the other program, in a way it might think you’re trying to exploit the game).

Another example is that I couldn’t see anything ingame (black screen), if I had chrome/photoshop open sometimes.

Have you installed anything recently after installing OW2? That could be the culprit.

Ye the issue seems to be this:

That is usually a GPU driver thing or an Authorization issue. When the game launches and tries to do changes on the HDD or gather resources, Windows says nope, and it just closes.

Its either “Run as Admin” exe, or just creating a custom config in Nvidia panel for Overwatch2.exe and it usually works, but dunno for now.

OK, thanks for the input

How do i make custom config with nvidia?

No prob.

It should be once you get the control panel open, on 3D config section, “Control the 3D settings” or something like that, the 2nd section. Then you have a global tab and on the other tab you can add an .exe so once you execute that exe, GPU works in a certain way.

That overrides the game config itself so many black screens dont happen if you put everything on low, no effects, “performance” etc.
