The game is suddenly unplayable - please help

Starting yesterday, my game isn’t working like it has been since launch. In online games (unranked, arcade) Overwatch is freezing, the UI is disappearing and some of the sound stops.

About an hour ago, in the random deathmatch game mode, upon respawning I could not see my weapon, health, abilities (and so on). I then pressed ESC to open the menu and my game froze for about 10 seconds however the UI was still absent.

I have tried many things to fix this but have had no luck. I can’t see it being an internet issue as no one else in my household is experiencing anything unusual. I would really appreciate any help as the game was absolutely fine before yesterday.

Howdy!

I want to rule out an overlay conflict that might cause this type of issue. Can you test with all background programs closed by disabling startup items following the steps Here, restart the PC, and double-check background programs are closed before retesting the game?

I disabled the start-up items and it seems to work. I have played 3 games all in different modes and haven’t experienced a problem.

EDIT:
Unfortunately, I had a longer game and signs of the issues were showing again. Towards the end, half of the game’s audio stopped and the play of the game was just a blank screen. Any suggestions?

Do you have any active antivirus or antimalware program(s)?

If yes try temporarily disabling said program(s) and see if the issues persist.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Unless the Windows Defender counts, I don’t have any said programs.

The issue is still happening with my first game of the day having little sound from the start and no UI after 1 death.

I am having similar issue that seem to have started recently. Last time I played was last weekend and there was no issue. Today, it keeps crashing (game closes with some error report window that has no button to send, only close) during the game and I have racked up 15 penalty matches from it. Have not been able to complete a game.

There was no update or changes to the game or the PC during this time.

What GPU are you using?

Is your GPU or dedicated soundcard or on-board motherboard chipset handling the audio?

You could try using OCCT and see if that reports any errors.

Just before I continue, my previous post was slightly worded wrong. By “little sound” I meant that some in game sounds were playing and some were not. For example, I could hear voicelines but not my gun shooting. (Shortly after that happens, that’s when my game loses UI and freezes when I press ESC.)

I use NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER.
I am unsure what the second question means.

Update: I have disabled some discord settings and “limited threads”. I was successfully able to play 7 games without any issue. If the issue continues tomorrow, I will post / edit with details.
