Winrate isn’t the issue, it’s the fact it was easier to climb in Overwatch 1.
This made me laugh…
I’ve been tracking my W/L across over all games on all queues and feel ready to confirm something is up.
It seems that when you hit your peak - which is the important factor - that the matchmaking will try to shove you back down to “prove” yourself.
I peaked Diamond 5 Support with Kiriko this season. Last season ended Plat 3 with 70% WR. (First time playing OW, and hit Plat 5 in all roles last season)
When I finally hit Diamond 5 this season, I was at exactly 50%
I wanted to park or there, but honesty I wanted to keep improving at this rank.
What happens after? Loss streaks. Leavers and ragers. Stacks on the other teams with one sided matchmaking.
In Diamond 5 I had a 5 game win streak feeling good about hitting Diamond 4. What happens after that 5th game where I need two measly wins? 7 loss streak.
- 3 leavers on my team (2 in winning games)
- 1 tilted dmg that trolled after the other support said “take less damage”
- 2 games where I had Gold 5!!! Teamsters while they had diamonds in a stack
- 2 close losses where I had to make crazy plays as Kiriko to even keep us in.
What happens then? Win - loss - loss - Win….
PLAT 2.
Seriously I’ve seen this and have a spreadsheet showing how punishing this system is. Across all the queues now.
Alarmingly - I have a 15% leaver rate on my team and less than 2% on the other team across ~700 games. WTF.
I mean i 100% agree with OP.
Whether it’s confirmed or not, the forum is littered with players sharing an almost identical experience.
Its from these real life scenarios you can speculate that there is something fishy going on.
Me personally, will go on a 14 game winstreak only to be matched with players several divisions below my rank on my team for the next set of losses.
While the enemy team stays consistent.
It doesnt take a genius to know the outcome of that game or the following games that follow that pattern.
On my 7th game, i genuinely had a player who was new to the game who didnt understand the chat to follow a call or pings or how their character worked…
Explain to me how that, in anyway, is a fair system to people who are trying to progress through the ranks?
I believe its fair to assume the win rate is following a manipulation of some kind.
Whether its to make you win more or lose more.
Instead of just evenly matching you and letting your skill division determine its own outcome.
There were 20+million players on launch…i cant accept that que times is a good enough reason for this system.
QFT.
There’s no smoke without fire.
It’s obvious when after a healthy win streak, you SEEMINGLY get terrible teammates. I mean they’re so bad it’s BLATANTLY noticeable.
After a while of this REPEATING PATTERN, you just come to the obvious conclusion that is the truth.
Bit odd they never appeared on my team a bit earlier wasn’t it? Why always after a streak? hmmm?
after the new season put me there (thanks b5 bug coming back?) I went support bronze 5 → silver 2 with 7/2 average, once I hit silver 2 I’ve been having the majority of games with bot-like endorsement 1 teammates, typically tanks, that have obviously just got the game (diva not doing defense matrix, diva not throwing ult, rein diving in 1vs5 over and over, ramattra never blocking, reaper spending the whole match in our backline shooting at the enemy team never once teleporting, nobody saying anything in voice or chat) so I have slowly decayed to silver 4 and guess what my win average is now about 50%. I did not magically forget how to play once I hit s2, I still am usually top heals in both teams (and sometimes higher dmg than dps if I play moira), I still make plays, but somehow from 80% win average I am now 40%?
Also I had the same bad tank just last night for 2 matches in a row, so much for tons of people playing… the “avoid this player” list should have 100 slots, not 3
This matchmaker of a billion dollar gaming company is so hilariously bad.
Putting players that are obviously one full division below me (I’m Plat 3, I get 3 Gold 4-5 teammates) to force a loss is the dumbest thing I’ve seen. We got stomped so damn hard because the entire enemy team are Plats. Just because I won a couple of games earlier? Disgusting.
Its funny when I win most of my games is when there is no leaver, thrower, troll, afker , toddler and blind people with no limbs on my team. But as soon as I win too much you know these people are gonna be in your next game. But yes, its a skill issue.
That’s true. By normal logic your MMR should increase so you should get better with higher MMR teammates as well as oponents, but you get worse ones
Who in the world made this algorithm…
I think one of the things that they may not thought about is that matchmaking is completely on MMR, they don’t even look at your rank but when you group up with others you can group up with 2 tiers apart, for example Plat and Silver can group up.
But you can be Plat with GM MMR and you can be Silver with Bronze MMR, because they are completely separated which means that GM MMR can group up with bronze MMR
Nice one Blizzard.
Correct!
Welcome to your current skill cap! The more you improve, the more you’ll climb.
Is the matchmaker bad? Yes. As of right now it’s not in a good state. One thing remains constant though, that you belong in the rank you deserve. You can complain all you want about external factors but that doesn’t change the way you play. Focus on you, not everyone else. If you stay above a 50% win rate, then you’ll keep climbing. Slowly, but surely.
Stop trolling and copium. You don’t know this. Do you work for blizzard?
Unless we gain the same SR for a win and a loss, which wasn’t the case in OW1, how do you know you will climb if you stay above 50% win rate?
Some games you can lose more SR in a single loss than you can gain in 5 winning games. This was proven by people going positive win rate but still derank or negative win rate yet still climbed multiple ranks.
The idea of using basic performance stats to determine your SR gain/loss is also a monkey game design. How do you award someone more SR or less SR base on kill / death that is so contextual and circumstantial? How can you compare my stats with other people across the same rank who plays the same heroes when we aren’t playing with the same match or against the same equal skill opponents.
To consider this game a competitive is a joke.
I’m doing neither. Also I don’t work for Blizzard lol, why is that a thing on these forums?
You climb by outperforming those in the rank you’re currently in. You can complain about it all you want, that’s fine, but if you aren’t climbing it’s because you’re currently in the rank you deserve.
While this might sound a little tinfoil cap-like, it feels like more than MMR rigging at this point. If it’s not doing more than that then it feels like something is horribly wrong, given how it currently works and it shouldn’t be like that.
For example, yesterday within the first 4 matches of 10 games, I had two leavers in a row on the enemy team. This was around 1 p.m. EST, shortly after the maintenance update. Guess what happened to me in matches 9 and 10 around 6 p.m., leavers on my team in both matches.
I had a game in December where one of the enemies DC’d in the early part of the game then came back. In Round 2, I was kicked out of the match halfway into it and was able to join back in. I didn’t have an internet loss or anything.
It feels like the game is trying its hardest to keep you from rising unless you play a crapload at a time. With playing more, I’m rising, but they make me want to break a desk while doing it.
Just had a comp game where the tank just afked the first 45 sec after picking the hero, asked him what is he doing, he said he is eating. After that he just basically ran in and died 1vs5 both rounds and talked sh*t.
How is this my skill issue? Nobody on my team had good ‘performance stats’ as the result of this individual who clearly doesnt care. So the ‘system’ think we are all bad players base on the LOSS and poor stats?
I wouldnt call it forced loss i would call it forced hard carry. You go from everyone on your team roughly close in skill to ppl clearly not even close to that level. Unlike ow1 where this was a low rank issue its now threw every rank.
We know for a fact blizz manipulated the system cause they told us they did. They realized in season 1 new players were getting stomped and loosing far more games then they wanted. Which will reflect poorly on sales. So they tweeked things they say they placed them lower then season 1 but i think they did more then that with how game quality changed so much from season 1 to 2.
Because it’s fixed to a range. Really high skill and/or coordination can overcome it, otherwise you’re at the mercy of RNG. Really high skill might not cut it solo either, a lot of RNG involved there too.
yep I just posted a similar experience
You should look up patent US20160005270A1
Like all things in life, there are people who are good at things, there are people who are not good at things, and there are people who are exceptional at things.
It’s okay to accept that you’re not exceptional at video games. In fact, I think you’re total quality of living might improve.
It isn’t forced. It just happens to fall that way when you are where you belong.
I went bronze to plat without a single loss several times. Then I start trending towards 50% win rate until I get to the same SR as multiple other accounts. I’m sure someone will have some anecdotal example of how they placed higher or lower, but in the long run you end up in the same rank range.
