The fallacy of "git gud"

It’s not complex, it basically ranks you based on your k/d and how well other people do with that hero as well as if you win or not. There was a lengthy post somebody leaked from blizzard’s internal team and it eplained why it was so easy to level with Torb and Symm and it’s because those heroes are terrible and barely anyone plays them.

It also predicted the Mercy skill gap debacle because the only metrics they had for gauging her rank was her healing done and how many rezzes she could pull off a match.

Any depth they alluded to is a complete joke, if you’re constantly matched with people who are not of your skill level since again the influx of botters, smurfs, and throwers also throws off the data gathering metric, and the other team winds up having a better team by sheer luck of the metrics, you will lose, and that will count against your score which will tank your metrics. You fail as a unit even if they say otherwise about changing it so “lower ranks get graded on individual performance” because there’s also the other end of the spectrum where you get ranked based on your previous performance too, which is another mess of nonsense that cropped up in one of the earlier seasons where they purposefully deranked everyone by a rank and wanted them to “feel like they earned the rank up” by climbing back up, only the matchmaking is so bad nobody but the most exceptional players in masters managed to do that. So they scrapped it the following season, and you can stil find the dev post about it somewhere if you trawl the old forums.

tl;dr the matchmaking system is a mess and isn’t in anyway indicative of individual skill except at the upper most levels.

Maybe you aren’t as good as you think?

I mean, back then, things was more limited, but nowadays, we’re matched against a much broader stage with the internet. I thought I was hot stuff until I met other players from overseas who proceeded to kick the crap out of me completely.

The PBSR is still in effect but only for diamond below, so if you’re actually as good as you say. You should be gaining more and losing less for each win fight.

No mean intention behind, but you need to get better.

Dude you’re 1800 sr. If you actually were in the semi pro scene for those games, you would tear your way through silver with nothing but aim alone. I’m a Battlefield and Call of Duty casual and clawed my way up to high master with only that experience under my belt. I had no experience with map callouts and positioning or any of the ‘900 IQ’ stuff.

It’s not the system. It’s you.

Git gud.

maybe your mentality of “i’m already the best” is your “problem” to say it politely…

Ok, a few things.

First off you sound extremely arrogant. Ditch that attitude, it will get you nowhere good.

Second, the average SR is around 2350 or something like that, and you’re in silver. Meaning that you’re well below average. In order to climb out of silver you don’t need to be gud, you just need to be average. OW is not like your every other shooter. Try to learn the game, build up some game sense and you’ll climb easy.

Thirdly, no offence, but I don’t believe a word you say. If you were truly as good at other shooters as you claim you are then your mechanical skill alone should carry you out of silver. Either you’re lying or your arrogance is holding you back way more than you think.

Maybe if you drop your arrogance and search for ways to improve, you will actually climb. Take it from someone who is experienced, I never got out of Gold until I stopped blaming my team and focused on how I could improve.

Forget about game sense and positioning. If you merely have an OWL player level of mechanics, you wouldn’t be stuck in Silver.

Friendly reminder: Don’t say other games names on the forums. I don’t know why but it is bannable. It makes no sense but i’ve got banned already for this once.

Sad but true.

I mean, the only thing I give you is that as far as I remember some silver player once did an experiment where he played placements and comp matches on a higher ranked (Plat? Diamond? I can’t remember) friend’s account and he held his ground there too, the differences between those ranks are a bit blurry. But boy, GM is a total different ballgame.

Someone actually at a mechanic GM level or even T500 or “better than half of OWL”, especially as DPS and doubly especially as Widow would wipe whole teams of silvers, no matter how bad their team mates are. There’s videos on youtube and everything…

cripes, they’re both even called football, I blame the refs

I was 4.1k Season 10 and I can barely get my smurf out of bronze. pepehands

There are a lot of TOP50 players are a lot better than the OWL members but guess what?

There are a lot of more abilities a player should have to be a member of the OWL

1.- SOCIAL-SKILLS this is the dam key, without this no matter if you are top5, you will never have a spot on the leage

2.- MONEY yes because you get sponsored you need have dolars to travel, pay your hotel, your food and attend the events of your team

3.- STREAMER yes if you are a top 100 players, stream with regularity and make yourself a NAME

4.- The skills… Yes you can be the perfect widowmaker after of play quake 5000 hours but you need use WIDOW, GENJI, TRACER, S76, PHARAH at top level in order of be a notable player

So skill is just a small part there are a LOT of factors more impotant than that

A famous streamer GM, with exceptional social skills, can play 3 - 4 heros at top level, with enough MONEY to afford travel HAVE A LOT of more chances to be a OWL member…

Buddy, I play on console and when I play comp on my friends silver account on pc at the ene of the day its in gold. Git gud

Unless you’re just straight up a better player than everyone else in your match, you’re not really going to climb that easily as Ana.

I think acc sharing is not allowed

This is absolutely untrue. Wanna know why? Cuz anybody in diamond plus can climb from bronze back to their rank, people have done it before. Especially on Widow, a good Widow can easily carry a team. If you’re stuck in silver there’s a damn good reason for it, a decent chunk of it is probably that attitude.

Even going off of your Widow stats, nothing that incredible. I’ve seen someone in platinum who was ranked as being in the top 500 of all Widows. That dude had genuine skill and was being dragged down by something, I don’t know what. You are in the bottom 12% of Widows, think about that before you brag about being “better than pros”.

Countless people have said it, pros, coaches, youtubers, streamers, everybody has said “if you are truly better than your rank, you will climb”. You really don’t deserve that attitude, if even half of what you said is true you’d at least be plat, maybe even diamond. I’ve played DPS in silver and easily climbed out, I’m not even a DPS player. If you are even close to good you can get out

Please send a VOD to Jayne or Stylosa or someone cuz I’d really like to see you play, I’d gladly eat my words but 9 times out of 10 when someone says they deserve a better rank they end up getting embarrassed.

Not sure why I’m getting this bizarre lecture like I said I wanted to be a pro gamer, but ok. I hope you enjoyed writing your Overwatch essay.

I climbed pretty easily with her. She’s not as hard as everyone makes her out to be; you just need good aim, good positioning, and good timing.

You may be amazing at those purely FPS games you mentioned, but you’re not at this one.

Try again.

It’s not super hard to do things on Ana, but what it is exceptionally hard to do is keep up with players who are better than you, or people who are of equal skill to her and using her counters.

Before I swapped to PC I climbed from Gold (dodgy placements) to Masters on her. Simply because I played Ana better than my enemies played their hero.
