The devs are not listening?

I mean i don’t know but it really feels like there is no way to talk to someone who can actually make a change, everyone is complaining about cheating issues, smurfing, meta and they are not doing anything about it.
only way to reach them seems to be being a content creator and actually sitting down with Jeff… but the same people who sit down with him once in a year or so complain the whole time until they have the opportunity to talk to someone who can make the change and they get scared and only say positive things…

I can’t imagine how they could ignore such a vast amount of people complaining.

But if you look at the big picture, smurfing/leaving/throwing isn’t exclusive to Overwatch. It’s a problem across the “fps” world in all games and nobody really has come up with a viable solution to it. They can ban forever, but it won’t fix the actual issue. I would think that most developers look to find a permanent (or close to) solution that would curb all these things we are experiencing, but not one game that I’m aware of has been able to - yet.

They are kind of in a rock and a hard place because they want to (before all else) make money while still allowing people the liberty to play the game as they choose. They could potentially slow down the smurf rate by not allowing people into comp until (example) level 100 - but it wouldn’t eliminate the smurfs entirely. They could place stricter penalties on leavers - but what happens when it’s a technical issue (disconnect)? And throwers? I don’t know how they would actually “fix” that issue unless they hired extremely high tech people to design an algorithm that tracked people’s progress (more so than the matchmaker) and penalized for certain lackings (and that would make it very difficult and tedious on it being 100% correct about who is throwing and who is just horrible at the game).

I can see it from both sides. Cheating is annoying - but what can the devs actually do about it?

THE DEVS ARE NOT LISTENING?

Looooong ago in a haunted castle upon a hill-- Are you listening?

Of course they never listen. It’s the reason why our avoid list isn’t permanent, and we don’t have more than 3 at a time. I had to clear my damn avoid list from A DAY AGO just to make room for TONIGHT’S BATCH OF TROLLS.

Reason why there is only 3 avoid slots are players who would over use the feature.

Then they get a longer queue time. The problem is, the avoid system needs more slots as there’s more trolls than slots.

You dont get it, if too many people will be avoided, we all will get longer queues… And no, you dont need more slots. You want more slots but you dont need them, it will not help you anyhow to climb or have better team mates.

It feels like, the more people voice their opionion the more Blizzard shuts off and doesn’t listen.

they removed unlimited avoid slot because some players werent able to get any games at all from being avoided by virtually everyone they came into contact with. IMO they likely deserved it.

It’s not just that, given the amount of people that would avoid anyone who dares not play perfectly or exactly what they want them to, it is very likely that adding a lot of, or even worse unlimited avoids, would make queues drastically worse for everyone.

Why would it do that? Easy, the game is not just looking for 11 players that you have not avoided when you’re sitting in queue, it’s looking for 2 sets of 6 players that have no one who is avoided by any of the other 5 on them. That’s easy enough for it to do now with everyone having just 3 since at worst that’s only 18 avoid slots that it needs to worry about. But if everyone were given 100 permanent avoid slots like a lot of people ask for? Then that’s potentially 600 players on each team that the game can’t put people with. Even if you didn’t abuse the avoids yourself and even duo with someone who also is not abusing the avoids that’s still 400 avoid slots from the rest of your team and 600 on the other team it needs to work around, and that’s just if you and your duo don’t use any avoids at all. The game may be able to find someone that you, your duo and one or two other players on your team aren’t avoiding, but oops, that fifth player that it had chosen to be on your team has them avoided, gotta keep waiting.

Could we maybe go to 5 without causing a major problem? Sure, but keep in mind even doing that puts 30 avoid slots on each side that needs to be taken into account before a match can be started. That can take a while especially in the ranks on the edges of the ladder. All it takes is one person on your team avoiding someone to keep them out of the match, it’s not as simple as “the whole lobby avoided them so it’s their fault”. If you just have that one teammate that is super picky about what the team runs and avoids everyone when they lose because you gave them unlimited avoids, they won’t just be slowing their own queues down or the people who they avoid. They’ll be slowing the waits down for everyone else as well as they wait for all the avoid happy people to get put into their teams too.

Hard to say but if I recall that correctly, Jeff Kaplan said that even 3 slots can have negative impact on matchmaking. Just imagine if several tank players would be avoided in for example low masters. It could severaly lower number of created games and make queue times a lot worse for everyone.

Well, I have had so many friends (most) quit this game due to poor matchmaking that I have been given so many accounts its hard to keep track of. I have a huge spread sheet of their ranks/classes/passwords/etc since I can’t keep track of them anymore. And yes, I use many to troll the lower tiers now. Why? Because it has become more important to destroy their matchmaker/gameplay and force them into creating something better by monetary loss (wrecking so many games they see a loss of people, sorry-not-sorry) that they have to effect change. And the result? Nothing. Nada. I can smurf or throw so painfully hard on so many accounts either way that is just disturbing, and be “reported” by so many players that at least say they are going to… guess what? Nothing, nada, all accounts still active. This past month I chose one account and tried, with all my smurf/throwing effort to try to get it reported or banned. I mean I went all out. Still active, no warnings, no suspension. So good luck. It’s all automated. And so long as you spend the cash, you will not get any repercussions. It makes me sad really… just another pay to play/win.

No, the reason why people do what you do is because they are scumbags. Using bad game design is just lame excuse. Players who like to troll others are generaly not good people in real life.

they only listen to pros/gms feedbacks and not their community tbh.

This game has devs? I thought it was textbook abandonware.

Why are you suprised? You claimed to play agaisnt them in bronze several times. You said they use low bronze as testing ground.

Litmus tests aren’t the same as active development.

They can sample any/all ranks via auto-generated accounts. There is an internal feature that lets them clone an existing accnt (same stats/records) and slap a new name on it. They’ll zone in and derp a match or two incognito.

That doesn’t imply active development of their product/service.

Blizzard has never responded to a real complaint on this forum, to my knowledge.

They’re on vacation right now, give em a break will ya? let them enjoy sometime with their families and loved ones before February where they’ll have to say a bunch of stuff regarding Overwatch 2 and all.

Jeff Kaplan did, when toxic player was complaining about ban

I think they do watch and read it definitely, they just prefer to not react, or very rarely.
