People playing to lose rank is not a new thing in Overwatch. People grouping to lose rank is not new. What is new is just how blatant they are being about it.
I’ve seen more than one group in the new LFG stating the group’s intention is to “De-rank.” Titles like “throwing,” “glitch using,” “Join to de-rank.” I’ve got a short list of names (about sixty so far,) of people who have created or participated in groups like this.
I’ve played against these people now. Just today, I played against a group who situated themselves on the roof of the building outside spawn on Volskya. The entire team sat up there sniping down as my team left spawn. Eventually, two people got around them and to the point. The enemy players did not leave the roof to try to stop the capture. Same thing with point B. They perched themselves up on the roof of the building beside point A and the balcony and sniped at everyone leaving spawn. Our Sombra captured point B all by herself. Then it’s the other team’s turn to attack. They came right in, chased my team back to spawn in the weapon factory, and never once tried to take point A. No progression was shown in the UI. Five of us stayed in spawn during the last forty seconds of round two. The enemy team did not go back to capture. At the end of this game, I asked “What’s the deal, guys? Are you smurfs?” One person replied “We have no game sense.”
I thought playing Overwatch with the purpose of losing rank was against the rules. But now, it’s more obvious than ever that is what people are doing here. Is Blizzard going to address this or is this just how it is going to be from now on?
This is just another example of the community ruining the game. To be honest, I don’t know how much more of this I can take before I have to start taking a serious look at why I purchase Blizzard games knowing full well that the players of those games will find a way to ruin it.
They aren’t all 6 stacks just losing.
I’ve encountered multiple times where a 3 or 4 stack will toss the game to derank and even admit they are doing it.
So yeah, it’s a problem.
I report every last one of them, but the damage is already done. I’ve lost Sr and comp points toward my gold skin.
While I don’t care much about my Sr score, I do not like to lose, especially when I never had a chance.
The thing is people do rank so they can go into low level games and to a fast climb for fun or trash on bronze players on some games and then lose a few games so they don’t leave bronze, it likely won’t hurt players in Plat or Gold much but just because someone is in Bronze does not mean they deserve to be abused by high level players. Maybe it doesn’t hurt anyone in the de-rank match but it will likely hurt others down the line
People are betting money on that baseball game, those players are taking home 7-figures, and entire media and fantasy industries are being built upon it…
The gravity of comp throwers doesn’t quite touch home base.
Though I can see how unsportsmanlike it is, I don’t think it’s defining the leaderboards in major waves (also, I haven’t seen it and would like to).
Yeah, I guess that makes sense. OP kind of came off with Hall Monitor vibes (sorry Hydev), so I immediately rejected it.
I will say, at low gold I get thrown in matches with all bronze enemies all the time. I’m not looking to hand out thrashings - matchmaking is already serving them on a platter.
I literally just saw a thread removed where the OP (of that thread) was asking to do exactly this.
If some or even one of the members of the team want to derank in order to stomp on lower skilled players then 6 stack or not, it’s not on and probably against the ToS.
Since, as you said, there were people which want to de-rank before and there will be in future, it is far better if they group up in one team, not involving in their trolls a poor soul which wants to rank up, no?
