The dark hidden message in the Overwatch lore

They lost the battle against the Omnics. They are actually trapped in a purgatory, being forced into a humiliating arena situation against themselves and each other all day every day.

All the omnics who sided with Overwatch and all of the rivals of Overwatch were included, because when push came to shove they all sided against the omnics.

They are cloned, and cloned again. Then they are given the same memories and experiences as their former selves, but each time they are left to the whim of a random omnic. So you see them do things like walk to their death, or simply do something far below the experience of their former selves.

They live in constant punishment because the omnics won. This is the true nature of Overwatch. Every time they die, they are simply shoved out of the launch point again like it never happened. None of the others remember it happening, because they simply cannot remember it. Immortal, and yet never victorious. Doomed to fight an eternal battle that can never be won.

I actually wonder if there are factions within the Omnics that are ProHumans and AntiHumans.

On the bright side, at least it might seem like Heaven to Torbjorn’s ancestors since Vikings description of Valhalla was pretty much exactly what you’re describing.

But seriously, why would they be in Purgatory for losing a battle against evil robots? Or are you saying that it’s because they tried to play God by making Artificial Intelligence in the first place? That sounds extremely messed up… That’s not attonentment or absolution. What you described sounds more like someplace far worse than Purgatory which nobody would ever be landed for something as simple as exercising their own God-given wisdom and creativity by creating the Omnics… However, I suppose it is entirely possible that they just ticked off God with their hokey “Iris” Religion.

So basically, the Matrix meets Dead by Daylight? I can dig it.

Well, yeah. Null Sector is pretty anti-human for one.

Right, but what about the Volskaya Omnics that are giving Intel to the Volskaya CEO in the Sombra trailer?

What about the big conspiracy that Sombra uncovered?

Probably stolen tech to make the giant mechs.

Right, but that either means a friendly faction of Omnics, or double agent mercenary Omnics.

Also what if we find out that Omnics are actually not entirely robotic. What if each Omnic actually has a human brain inside of it?

Also what’s the deal with the “Weird Omnic” Gwhiwin stuffs that were attacking Korea? Are they an entirely different faction of Omnics from the ones in UK?

What about them? If you’re just looking for a “pro-human” omnic group, the Shambali are right there.

I believe they were called artificial intelligence. So them having human brains would be kind of counter-intuitive to the established lore.

I mean, Blizzard writing…

Huff that copium. It’ll fix everything.

The Gwishin is a large underwater Titan-Class Omnic that seems to do whatever it wants. It might even be a mobile factory, considering its constant onslaught of Gwishin Drones.

It has an advanced learning algorithm, but it’s not quite intelligent, at least not yet and it doesn’t seem to attempt to communicate.

It’s more like a Null_Sector unit, which have simple run and gun programming, but are ultimately controlled by some higher class, intelligent Omnic, like the mysterious ‘Null_Hector’ from the end of Storm Rising for example.

Then their only hope (or MacGuffin if you’re cynical) is Tracer, who exists between the spaces in time…

In my own mind I always rationalised the games as Athena running simulations to collect a large pool of data to use in the event of a second Omnic Crisis.

Or maybe it’s like Super Smas Bros and they’re all just toys in a toychest and we are kids playfighting battles with them and controlling them

Easy answer - the game isn’t canon and doesn’t exist in the lore.
