The current status of rammatra

As we certainly know, rammatra has lost one of his personalities so that he can no longer punch through barriers.

I took some time and saw if he was really “terrible” after the patch, here are all the heroes with barrier that need so many hits to be destroyed (except sym):

Full hp Reinhardt Shield: 10 punches
Full hp Sigma Shield: 5 punches
Brig to kill with barrier: 6 punches
Winston bubble: 4 punches
Mauga cage fight:10 punches
One zarya bubble: 2 punches
Rammatra Shield: 6(?) punches (forgot about that lol)

My conclusion is: Rammatra is not bad, he has lost effectiveness but also gained, e.g. the easier match up against Zarya, now he has become a tank that is supposed to create space for his team, that he destroys the barriers and his team destroys the rest should do.

I’m very sure that all Rammatra players will run over me, but that’s just “my” opinion, you can say yours too.

So far from what I’ve played, it feels like a push overall. I’m not willing to say it’s outright better, but the sky is definitely not falling yet in my eyes.

The cleave is missed in the situations where they’re massed up (this may have ripple effects like ult charge time), and the winston matchup in particular will need time to really judge, but in the normal cases where the other tank and I are just boxing, I don’t feel worse off. A big thing that people don’t talk about with fighting barriers is that it’s never in a vacuum. I’ve never had to deal every single point of damage to a Rein shield or something, even with the least helpful of teammates.

Against Rein, you were always meant to out-footsie him with the range of pummel and staff, and the damage typically got healed up. While you can’t just checkmate him in the traditional sense any more, he will have to back off if you bust the shield, which is now basically always under threat if you were pressuring at all beforehand.

Sigma’s barrier is extremely precious and he’ll call it back after like 2 hits now. The barrier dancing is harder to beat, but he just can’t keep it up for that long.

Brig takes longer to 100-0, but you were typically not getting her to begin with unless she engaged with dash like an idiot. The main thing here is that 2(?) hits disables dash if she kept it full.

Cage match was always a weird case of how to approach, so more time will be needed to figure out what the play is when outside or inside.

I haven’t fought Zarya yet since the patch hit, but that’s the one I’m most interested in. Cleave didn’t do anything there, so the bonus damage is preferred if you’re intent on breaking it.

The Ram barrier is temporary and stationary, so you ran through it if you were winning or waited it out if you were losing. Using it to dance for a sec to wait for your Nemesis cooldown may be a thing in the mirror now, though.

Big loser against the Sym ult. Having to actually acknowledge it is unequivocally a nerf, but that’s kind of a “Oh I have to learn to play normally now” nerf.

What team is gonna allow you to do all those punches without having to block or get deleted? that’s the question. The squishies you were pressuring behind a shield are now gaining back their hp and will direct all damage to you. gl with that.

I believe the game genuinely needed more tank options to play into Zarya. As far as I am aware, her only counters are Winston and Reinhardt. It’s nice to have an option with some poke. Especially one that is able to transform into a Brawl tank at will to fight her off.

It is also another viable option against Winston which is great. Especially because they do not want Hog or Mauga to be viable.

People saying that Ram is bad now feels unbelievable to me. He is the same old powerful Ram, that he just has less effect against MOSTLY rein, then Winston and some against Sigma but not much.
Ram is still powerful and after d.va he was meta some days ago.
The big difference is his matchup against Rein. He had the upper hand (actually he countered Rein). Now he has not. Rein has the upperhand. His shield is way too big and regenerates too quickly.
Winston matchup isn’t as much 1v1 in general, due to Winston jumping around, but he is less effective on finishing off a Winston that did a bad dive into your team. Not something extraordinary tho
Sigma is well behind shield most of the time so i couldn’t say you are way less effective now. Also that way you can break Sigma’s shield in no time that makes him way more vulnerable.
Against brig it’s just two pummels and her shield is broken. I would say now it’s more fair for brig because Ram used to delete brig way too quickly

Gee golly whiz, I wonder if they were crutching Rammatra against Reinhardt players! No, they just totally care about his identity… That has to be it. Nothing suspicious here!

Zarya can be played into by almost any tank. She’s not like DVa who eats everything but beams. Zarya is pretty well designed really in comparison. Annoying, sometimes, but still not the extreme stupid lopsided design that DVa is.

I… Just do not agree. It’s the opposite. But I get that we have vastly different opinions on tank as a whole. To some, me, Reinhardt is the Lord and Savior. To others (that are wrong), Reinhardt is dishonest. That will shape our perspectives into entirely different approaches to the game.

Oh great now you massively charged her death beam and can melt you faster than you can kill her, great idea genius
