The catch-22 of Overwatch

Overwatch games feel bad when they are slow, when nothing is dying,
so… there are changes/ways to go around it.

At the same time in Overwatch it feels bad to die,
however, someone has to die for the game to progress…

  • There is a balance to it, but there will always be people, who dislike the current slowness/speed of TTK of each patch.

The solution seems impossible to find.

Its possible if ALL sides are willing to sacrifice and put themselves aside.

DPS have to learn that targets should be able to use abilities to escape, deny and counter. They need to understand that aim skill is not the only way to play this game

Tanks have to learn they are not just DPS with extra HP and holding space means sacrificing damage and they also have to play cover

Supports need to understand that the passive is necessary but not it current form BECAUSE for healing to be strong it needs to have a counter.

ever saw this rare phenomenon you just said?

No. It has to be forced.

honestly, adding role queue was the beginning of the end. I used to start on DPS, and swap to monkey or Dva to counter a sniper, etc. A lot of agency was removed when they went to forced 2:2:2.

I still maintain brig was the problem. Brig enabled goats, and they ‘solved’ goats by forcing 2:2:2, instead of just scrapping brig’s design and starting over. Removing role queue and re-balancing gives players much more agency to have the correct kind of dynamic game.

Last season the big consensus was that TTK should be longer and now we are in deathmatch dps heaven where reinhardts explode in under a second.

You are not quiet right. Brig was not the inital problem. Dive (Tracer) was. Brig was supposed to be a solution to weaken dive comps. She was too strong (thousands of nerfs and still viable) and formed Goats. Devs didnt know how to balance her → introduced Roe Queue 2-2-2. And Role Queue with its fixed number of two tanks led to Double Shield which then opened the way for 5-5 in OW2. If it wasnt for Role Queue we probably wouldnt have had DOuble Shield.

The inital problem was that dive was too strong and devs created Brig to counter that.
And all problems have one common denominator: dev team failing with balancing and therefore introducing Matchmaking-altering solutions like 2-2-2 and 5v5.

I understand, but Brig was still the problem. There were ways to counter dive without Brig’s current design. Brig could still be designed to counter dive without whip and without her AOE healing.

And honestly dive wasn’t really too strong to begin with. People liked dive, they were just tired of it and wanted a change. They just needed to overnerf tracer/monkey to give people a break from dive for 3-6 months, but instead they introduced a character that broke the game.

they need to understand that healing shouldn’t require 6 precise pixel sized projectile headshots to have a slight HP recovery…

they have to learn that cc and damage is inevitable and that them being unstoppable isn’t fair

what’s wrong with the passive? literally DPS right now has a weaker version of it…

I don’t think so, I enjoyed RoleQueue much more than everything that followed after

and now even less people are playing tank, see?

now I’m wondering if people even tried to use poke against it, or if they just went “oh dive not work, me go same team comp”

The point i tried to make was that dev team failing with balancing is the main problem. They could have nerfed dive (tracer) and brig would have never been necessary. But i guess noone could have seen Goats being a thing. I still thinkg we would be in a better place if Role Queue was never introduced. Goats was about to go out of meta and be replaced by 1-4-1 (pharah, ball, mercy). And then Role Queue was a thing.

actually :nerd emoji: there were several “main” problems most certainly, that helped the decline

Sorry, I might have misread what you said earlier. I agree. One of blizzard’s biggest problems is their ego. They’d never admit they made a mistake with brig, reworked her, nerfed tracer and called it a day. They had to make the game even worse by adding role queue.

We aren’t some ppl like Flats just cherry picking super edge case scenarios that would’ve happened before the patch anyway because he wants tank stronger. And you fell for it.

im not a tank player. and i still want tanks to be stronger then they are right now. TTK is too low. Fights need to be longer.

Agreed.

A balanced roster with this much diversity and just 1 tank is a pipe dream.

I think the game will never be balanced, some heroes will always be OP, others will always get dumpstered. Who gets wacked and buffed seems kind of up to chance, the whims of the devs and whatever feedback they choose to listen to.

That all being said, this game still has me. I’ll go down with the ship, its cool, be a good story to tell when I get older.

nah you see if they actually balance the game, that’s never an occurance

Yes and no.

Yes. You can’t make everybody happy.
However, you can make the largest total amount of players happy.

Which also happens to line up with their “More players = More dollars” business strategy.

It’s also probably the most Ethical approach.

And the approach that gives the devs the best job security and morale.

The solution is to leave the game alone and allow it to mature.

Constantly changing things will never fix anything.

Brawl meta with rein Zar. Best meta in gaming history, Unbias and based.
