The Blizzard Forums Reply System

I really don’t like how replies to posts work. Specifically, when you reply to the last comment made, it will delete quotes and not show that who you’re replying to. This leads to a lot of confusion as to who a particular person is responding to.

For example, if the OP says “I hate dogs”, the first reply says “I love dogs”, and someone replies to the second person with “Me too”, then it will look like the third person hates dogs.

It’s hard to explain, but I hope you understand what I’m trying to say.

Yeah this is my pet hate with the forums, I always make sure to quote reply rather than just reply so people can see who I’m replying to, but even then, the auto-delete is super annoying

Sorry Shadow, you’re gonna be my test subject for a sec.

So, turns out you can quote said people if you either add something to the quote or leave something away.

I’m not sure if I should be talking about this, but a common method I use is to simply delete periods.

You can add in invisible text by inserting text between angle brackets: <>, as an alternative method

if only this was the only thing backward on this forums, it baffles me you need some elaborate shenanigans or get to another site to see your trust level

You have to slightly modify their quoted text so if they said “I love dogs.” you can quote “I love dogs” without the period on the end. Then the quote won’t be auto deleted.

But as a general rule it’s a good idea for your reply to make sense by itself as people will quote your “me too” and go on a long explanation about fleas then anyone looking at one comment will think “wait, is the person who said ‘me too’ someone who likes dogs or hates dogs”

Think it depends on which reply button you use

If you hit the reply button in someone’s message it should show an icon indicating who you’re replying to…

Though it doesn’t seem to do this if you’re the next person to reply

You can always quote if you want to be safe

The general reply button on bottom of page is directed towards OP

Yay, I has been helpful

if you want to reply directly to the OP (like i am doing now), hit the reply button twice

i know its bad design, but this method works

You can partly quote someone. Like just leaving out a character. Then your quote does not get removed.

Hey it works!

The reply thing seems to be a semi-recent change to prevent “unnecessary clutter” produced via quoting the post right above yours.
