“Cheap” and “good value” are not the same thing though. Actually they are usually diametrically opposed.
The battle pass is cheap, sure. Can we all afford the expense? For the most part, sure.
I’m pretty sure I could go out to my local dog park with some plastic bags and find some… “used organic materials” that I could give away for $10 a pop. Would you buy a nice warm baggie for $10?
It doesn’t matter what price it is. What matters, is it’s worth.
On a personal note:
With everything blizzard has described, I think they would need to knock $30 off the asking price of the battle pass, before installing OW2 would feel worth it, after everything.
If the only thing that people are interested in are* the* cosmetics, sure it’s fine.
To me cosmetics are the least important part.
EDIT: as for a skin costing $40…
No single skin is worth the price… of a game?
I might pay $2 for it, assuming blizzard was on their best behavior. With how active the middle-finger department at blizzard has been lately I just don’t think it’s worth anything at this point.
I have to admit, it is not bad value. A new hero every other pass, a mythic skin, an event’s worth of legendary skins, and various meme voice lines and weapon charms… I have seen worse.
Albeit, most of those give you the premium currency back. So idk if this is sustainable. Especially the passes without the heroes.
They need a good game to hook the people who will pay for it. That is what remains to be seen. If the game is as bad as it is now, ain’t nobody (in their right mind) spending for some mediocre skins.
These battle passes are bloated with nonsense. What I want is a battle pass tailored to a character. One complete with cosmetics you can unlock and mix and match on your characters, like Halo does.
Are they talking about doing this?
Edit: Also, the Halo MCC battle pass progression system allows you to complete the pass whenever you want, so if OW2 did that I’d be fine with paying $10 for it.
That is actually the biggest issue with this game’s potential monetization, in my opinion. According to their own logic, most people only play 2 heroes. So what if one of those two heroes are not in the pass? They expect me to pay full price? Good luck, Blizzard.
$60 can put food in your house for a while. This is especially true depending on what store is near you. I can go to an Aldi with $60, and get an astonishing amount of food. Heck, $10 can feed you for a while.
I value a skin for a hero I play at 10 bucks because that was the price of Pink Mercy and also OWL skins. The new BP has at least 2 skins and a lot of other stuff I want.
I get that stuff that is worth 30 bucks or so for me personally for 10 bucks and play time (in a game that I play anyway). So yeah. I like the value.
But in the end, everyone has to choose if the pass is worth the price. If it did not have had any skins for the heroes I play in it would I buy it? Maybe. Depends on the other stuff in it.
I personally have not seen a BP that provides you with so much stuff BEFORE you start to go through the tiers. I would have bought the Dva skin in the shop anyway but its just with the pass as an insta unlock? Hell yeah!
The real question is do you value your time? Like another said, the money isn’t the issue. It’s an issue if you pay to skip tiers and end up paying more than a full retail game would cost though.
The only BP I enjoy is Fortnite. Thing is, with that game, I can use any item I unlock, as opposed to hero shooter cosmetics. Skin shops also do nothing for me. I don’t mind spending $10 on a BP, considering I’ll earn enough currency to unlock the next BP. I’ve not bought a skin in Fortnite, just the BP. I don’t expect I’ll ever buy a standalone skin. I expect that to be the same for OW2.
But do you WANT to buy another game is the question tho. I personally rather stick with one game and spend money there instead of hopping from game to game. And because of that the “play time” is a metric that I give the game anyway.
But I can see that its a problem for people who dont have much time or want to play also other games.
… in which way? The only thing in the battle pass I would even remotely care about getting is the hero. The problem with the battle pass model, is that if they put anything that’s actually a value in it, it becomes pay to win. So it’s either filled with cosmetics that don’t really matter, or it’s broken and unfair.
We all have. Just because someone does something worse doesn’t arbitrarily make another thing good. Killing someone, isn’t good just because Marilyn Manson exists, and has done worse.
Yeah I’m definitely against a battle pass system, but without the hero lock situation I could accept it.
I wouldn’t be thrilled, but I wouldn’t be particularly upset either. Paying for the right to grind is always going to rub me the wrong way, but as long as it’s cosmetics (even ones I probably really want) I won’t be too upset.
Exactly. The fact that you can spare dozens of hours if you just cough up the ten dollar fee is where the value is coming from. It is shady as hell, but I will not pretend it is not value.
I did not say this is good, I am never going to spend money on this game BECAUSE it is bad. The word good was strictly attributed to the word value. This Battle Pass is abhorrent. I feel it is unprecedented, putting a hero in the pass. This is actually the WORST pass I have seen because of that, but it brings good value.
And also, not to be edgy, but sometimes killing someone might generally make the world a better place, lol.
