"The Babies are safe" challenge in ironclad doesn't work

There’s a challenge where you need to finish the mission Ironclad, without any of torbjorn turrets being damaged, we did multiple times with my boyfriend and it’s not working

What we do is that we hide the turrets you’re supposed to place in the starting room, so robots won’t get to them and be able to do damage to it but it seems like it doesn’t work

In my opinion this is a bug since I’ve seen multiple people talking about the fact that it wasn’t working for them either, but let me know if we got the wrong strategy

I’m grinding my teeth on this today, as well.

For the other missions I did tutorial videos yesterday and the day before
(like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hL1BLoWFhow ) but for this one I don’t get it.
I am grinding to get the mission done on Expert difficulty - I am two or three hours in today, from barely making it over people not understanding the basics and obviously being on their first try of the mission altogether over to a toxic premade meeting my regular “hi all, hf gl o/” greeting with toxicity, slurs and hard griefing for nearly ten minutes straight intentionally wasting time.

People also like to pick up the turrets and throw them anywhere randomly.

I guess I’ll try soloing (as in not picking a character until every human player left the lobby to start with bots, which to me is griefing as well but seems to be the only way to prevent griefing? why is there no “no I do not want to be matched with toxic griefers and prefer NPCs over human beings” mode? anyways…) next to get the “The babies are safe” achievement.

Trying to get the “Iron Cannon” achievement is a different thing for that specifically says “on Expert or higher”. HOWEVER, due to my experience with the other missions over the last days their achievements did NOT state the “on Expert or higher” part and still required it. Maybe there’s a hidden requirement on “The babies are safe” as well?

We’ll see, I’ll try a bit more as long as I feel my sanity allowing for it.

However, the more I play the less enjoyable this whole thing becomes and I already am in the “unpleasant” zone, probably will end up hating this “release” in a few hours and leave a review on steam, too. Oh well…

//edit: I got the “Iron Cannon” achievement when I finally had a group of people who really wanted to sweat this through, we even wiped two times but eventually finished the map and on the last try did so barely keeping the big turret over 50% so that challenge is comparatively forgiving.

//edit2: I did a try on “The Babies are safe”, starting the mission on normal difficulty alone with three bots - I hid ALL workshop turrets in the spawn room to the back so they did not get a single point of damage and it did NOT count towards the challenge. I am kinda sick and tired of the “hidden requirements” these challenges have. I mean not only does it feel terrible, I also paid a “premium price” for it, and that just leaves a sour taste.
Those “hidden requirements” feel literally just as terrible as young me picking up “Bart vs. The World” on NES back in the day just to get stuck on invisible pixels and falling to my death. It is one of the worst video games in the world of all time, and Overwatch 2 literally is on the same level now with this.

Have you tried not using torbs turret?

It shouldnt, but I wouldnt be surprised if, for some reason, torbs turret also counts for the challenge.

I thought about it but trusted the tooltip explicitly saying “Torbjörn’s WORKSHOP turrets”, but maybe…

//edit:
Yeah, no, trying this at 4 am and wiping two times I am so p*ssed beyong belief right now I will take a break for today.

This garbage turned from struggle to pure hatred, the cherry on top of this cake of diarrhea is the fact that there even was no “waiting until the lobby was empty” anymore, there simply is nobody left playing this trash after T W O days. I was alone with three bots from the get go.

GG blizz, thanks for ruining my favorite game.

Maybe the game counts moving the turret as destroying it, so can you try just not touching the turrets at all?

I just finished the challenge (as Bastion) a couple of minutes ago. I don’t really have any clue on what the Torb in my game did different compared to my other attempts but this is all the info I can tell you about the game:

  • Difficulty was on “Normal”
  • I had 2 bots on my team so a full group isn’t necessary
  • Big turret got damaged so that isn’t a must
  • Torb changed and moved the workshop turrets a lot so they don’t have to be on the same place all the time
  • He used and destroyed his own turret a lot so that is also not a problem

At the very end the Torb COMPLETELY fixed all the workshop turrets before firing the big turret that ends the mission

I don’t know if Blizzard fixed it somehow or if I just got lucky.

it worked for me, ive tried this for so long finally.!

Just tried Deathcore’s solution and (I’ll admit it’s the first time I’ve attempted it too) but i made sure all the turrets were full health, they happened to all be on the point so i could get to them easily, hit the button and I got the challenge completed.

I moved the turrets around, we didn’t lose any turrets in any of the phases, and I had my personal turret moved and destroyed on multiple occasions.

Maybe blizz hotfix, maybe “intact” means full health.

It got probably got ninja fixed yesterday or the night before. As with most challenges I did a guide on it for those interested:
