The armor system is kinda dumb

300 dmg from a single pellet? From long range? Block 0.6 percent of it and move on, no biggie.

140 damage from a large number of pellets, where the attacker has to be at breathing distance? No way Jose, we’re blocking 50% of that.

I think armor should be changed to adapt to specific interactions, so it blocks let’s say… 20% damage from single shot burst, 20% damage from shotgun bursts and block 0.6 from every “machine gun” bullet.

the reason why armor exists in the first place is because of reaper and tracer.
both deal a good amount of damage from several smaller damage instances.

i see nothing wrong with that, but reaper being turned into a tankbuster mainly is a problem.

Armor was meant to foil Buckshot and Smgs while leaving Bombs and other heavy hitting weapons largely unaffected.

This makes sense because you don’t want your big hp pools just getting melted by the high dps of the former attack types.

But there’s the problem: The latter attack types are far more plentiful and on heroes who are a lot less gimped to begin with.

But he’s the OG tank buster.

It’s not him that has to move, it’s the others who are stepping on his toes.

I really want to know who thought that up in the first place. Reaper’s entire kit is very oriented around assassinating squishy targets; he has way better up-close DPS/burst damage than most launch DPS (excepting Mcfanroll), a teleport meant to get him closer to the squishy backline, and a temporary invul to back out when he’s done. His ult is literally useless against tanks because of how it deals damage, and is in fact actively countered by most of them simply looking in his direction.

Reaper busts tanks that are alone, and gets wrecked by tanks that aren’t. There are better ways to poke/burn down tanks than picking Reaper, especially with the way armor interacts with his shotguns.

Armor originally was given to tanks to adjust the damage of spread weapons on their huge hitboxes

B-But if he isn’t the off tank slayer then, what is he good for???

I-Is my identity a lie?

They could add some significant balance tools to the game if they allowed for different interactions with armor based on the type of weapon that was being used. Right now it’s beam damage gets one treatment, and everything else gets another.

i still believe the step into lifesteal and the vast amount of QoL fixes was the wrong move for reaper.

reapers issue was never that tanks were too good that pushed him out so he needed lifesteal.

it was because reapers spread was not condusive to killing 200 hp targets at his optimal range, it’s still the same, he’s now just better at killing tanks and still have issues against squishies, yet most tanks have armor.

so reaper could be an actual character that’s well-rounded close quarters character, instead they just opted to just make him stronger against tanks.

he never was the OG tankbuster you’d think he was, he was actually pretty reasonable to fight before the lifesteal as a tank, even for winston.

T-This is so sad.

You mean he was bad from the very start?

I mean
That’s what he was meant to do
And he does it terribly

he was mediocre and relied on rng on spread to some degree to win fights he should have won.
all they had to do was shrink the spread a bit so the rng wasn’t as crazy and you could more reliably duel squishies in the space he was actually supposed to duel squishies in.

but then they averaged out the pellet spread to be more consistent which killed his rng luck to win some engagement against squishies he should’ve had the advantage against anyways.
and then he got turned into a life leeching tankbuster as a result because he just couldn’t duel properly.

so now he’s looked at as a pubstomping character because of a giant spread and life leech and high damage output.

Wow, figure that, some ults don’t work in some situations. Reaper’s ults work in plenty of situations. You can’t expect every ult to have the capacity to kill everything, destroy all shields and basically be uncounterable.

That’s not the point of an ult - you SHOULD be able to counter it.
