The Anomaly of Hanzo

Do you ever play against a Hanzo and get completely stomped, but you can’t tell if the Hanzo was good or just having the luckiest game of his life?

I’ve watched so many Hanzos kill me on death cam, and I still can’t answer that question.

Skill? Or luck?

An instant kill projectile is just a bad idea in this game. Yeah, yeah, ‘smallest’ projectile, but projectiles in this game are all huge in the first place.

Small projectile.
Massive head hitboxes.

You can’t really balance luck honestly. Every Zenyatta volley, every Reinhardt charge, every Hanzo shot, every Roadhog 1.0 hook, every Soldier76 helix, most widow jump shots, etc.

Some are luck, some are prediction. I can’t stand being shot by a random arrow Hanzo shot while jumping around the corner without him even seeing me. But it happens, I personally need to improve my unpredictability.

and then sometimes they’re cheating but nothing you can do about that really.

As somebody that can’t aim yet still sometimes manages to pop off on Hanzo, I ask myself the same every time.

Serious answer: It’s the infinite ammo. Spamming arrows at enemies is bound to get you kills at some point.

No. Not really. I’ve never been stomped by Hanzo based on just luck.

If a Hanzo is consistently beating you back to the spawn room, he’s not getting lucky. A bad hanzo is an anchor around the team’s waist.

Usually me being much dumber than I thought I was. Hindsight hits fast vs Hanzo.

Spam. They are just spamming. Even a non fully charged shot can one hit you easily.

Of course, there are some times where it is skill. But 99% it’s luck of a broken character.

Not to mention he has sonic so he could confirm his prediction. I see some idiot is about to come out those doors, time to spam arrows at head height to one shot them. I wish I could get two shot instead of one shot by Hanzo of all things.

Zenyatta volley needs to be charged and lands all of them.
Reinhart charge has huge CD and is basically a suicide skill
Hook barely one shots

Is just Hanzo and Widow who can 1 shot every 1 second in the game.

Just a friendly reminder that Hanzo takes more skill than Widowmaker, threads like this make me quite happy TBH. Even when he is balancer now you’re gonna still find a way to complain about him.

Yeah yeah smallest projectile > biggest lie . Projectile has a length the length of the arrow which even if u touch the tail of it you get damaged.

Hanzo’s success generally involves a significant amount of luck. Good aim and prediction can help a lot, but you still need a bit of luck to succeed, and it’s certainly possible to succeed without those skills if you hit an especially lucky spree.

So skill, maybe (and probably, if it’s happening often). Luck, yes.

Because snipers in this game are stupidly OP, probably because that makes for flashy OWL/streamer clips

High Recoil

Low ROF

Shallow Clip

Limited Ammo

Flinch

Low Health

Low Mobility

Vulnerable in close combat

This is how other games balance sniping. Notice how Widow has none of those, and Hanzo is even worse

Cant tell. I mean, i’d be more sure if he 2 shot instead of 1 shot…

Here is why:

He is only a sniper in that he shoots an arrow which hits for 250 hp on crit, the rest of his kit is basically that of a flanker.

No scope penalty, no problems being in your face. With his arrow projectile size head hit box of all non-tank heroes are effectively twice as big (while being the smallest projectile in game, the arrow is about as big as those hero’s head hitbox). Also close range he is essentially hit scan.

While having a movement penalty when drawing his arrow, that actually works in his favor as he spams more unlike Widow which holds shots and constantly change movement speed when he shoots and draws, in addition to ADAD movement. Resulting in a very eradic movement pattern.

His own hit box is all over the place, when he lunges, when he ‘grabs’ an arrow, when he changes direction, this dude’s animations are the wonkiest of any hero.

Somewhat recently I was demolished by a Hanzo. Watched the replay to see if he was cheating and it turned out he actually sucked. Missed me continuously before eventually landing a lucky headshot. :joy:

That is the majority of Hanzo’s I see, and it’s absolutly enfuriating that they outclass sustain damage heroes with such stupidly cheap mechanics

Or get over it in general. Stop making excuses for why you keep dying and think of what could of been done differently. It’s getting old hearing about how hanzo is broken but also is struggling to perform at all ranks.
