I’ve never understood people’s fascination with ruining other people’s gaming experience and 11 seasons in it’s becoming almost unbearable. Blizzards insistence on putting in niche heroes and have shown zero ability to balance the game to where having niche picks isn’t a disadvantage. So what do the trolls do pick these heroes and ruin the game for everyone else. Great fun.
They are still in the process of balancing the game. They are just getting out of the phase where only one comp is viable at a time into the rock paper scissors balancing. Once they get that down pat they then need to start introducing new comp types or reworking/buffing heroes so that they fit into an already existing viable comp so that everyone can get input into this viable rock paper scissors rotation.
Niche can definitely be viable. A good example is huskar from DotA2. He is a hero that can be countered pretty hard, but if you outplayed your opponents enough in the draft phase to last pick him, the opponents can end up with no answers and he wrecks by himself.
Overwatch can’t go quite this far with hero swapping, but as long as ult advantage can get you past your counters than it can still be very effective.
I have gone from 3760 to 3113 in 3 days. My games are filled with the same players over and over picking troll heroes. The team comps masters and mid diamonds put together is laughable. I literally fill every game but there is no stopping this forced loss streak Blizzard has decided I would go on. I was at 64% win rate this season now I’m back to 50% this happens to me every single season
This is one of the reasons why they should let us avoid more than 2 people as teammates. I’m sick of getting the same people over and over. I don’t care if my queue times take longer if my games are better. Only being able to avoid 2 people is meaningless. It’s like they gave us the option to avoid 2 so they could say they “did something” when in practice it does diddly squat. Out of the thousands of players I’m matched with there are literally hundreds of throwers (go look at the multiple throwing COMMUNITIES on PSN) and I’m only allowed to avoid 2?! That’s laughable.
I’m not sure that their goal is to balance the game, it feels to me that it’s more about lootboxes and seling the game. Since the begining we had millions of hanzo fan who were badly treated in competitive matches, now look at hanzo… Look at the heroes that require “no real skills” to get rewarded… I mean, there’s a logic behind this, blizzard had to make money, they wont balance the game unless it gets them money, and balancing a game wont give them as much money as doing fan service.
Of course they are trying to balance the game, and it is in fact getting better. Very rapidly in fact. Just this time last year was still a meta with a defined 6-7 meta heroes in a single viable comp.
The only thing is, they are trying to make all characters viable no matter how much mechanical skill they require. You may jot like it, but they value moba style decision making just as much if not more than mechanical skill.
They aren’t doing in “to make money” at least not directly like you seem to think. They aren’t simply making easier characters as good as the harder ones to attract new players. They are trying to make the pro scene as diverse as possible, to raise awareness and interest in the game, so that new players come in that way. Allot like the DotA2 model. Making as many characters as possible (including those new players enjoy) good in the pro scene is what they are after.
Well, I bought a fps, and it was fine till 2 or 3 months ago. Why is every game so uninteresting and annoying now? Can’t they leave the moba stuff out of overwatch and embrace whet they created, why change it now.
It was always half moba. That’s why players with allot of experience in LoL or DotA2 did just as well when the game came out as those with allot of fps experience.
Games in such a bad state right now. Tried playing for the first time since this post 2 games with leavers 1 game with a bastion troll. Tons of fun Blizzard.
And here we have the prime example of someone who probably never actually belonged in Masters.
I assume they either got carried or boosted(How to people with such negative attitudes and who never blame themselves manage to climb?)
two years and they cant balance the game yet, sure seems like they are working on it. At this pace we might get a balanced game in 3018
Dive gets countered by Orisa bunkers which gets countered by Rein Zarya which gets countered by Dive, ignoring maps ofc.
Thats rock paper scissors in my book.
DotA2 didn’t really get out of the single meta comps area till around 3 years in. Then it didn’t include a large part of the cast into the meta until 5 or 6 years in.
Overwatch is on it’s way
It’s actually dumb how you get punished for other people trolling. Especially on consoles, nothing gets done about it. I could literally soft throw hundreds of games and not have anything done about it. Because the fact of the matter is, i could do it within the boundary of the rulebook. I won’t because I’m not a horrible human being.
Point being… This whole SR system needs a rework so that 5 other people don’t determine your SR. Then you won’t worry about trolls

This. This. This. This. This. This.
I can’t state strongly enough, there really are no words, just how joyless this game has become to me because of THIS very reason.
I launch the game in the mindset of, “I’ll pick heroes that are useful to my team comp, and I’m aiming to win.”
I join a game in Comp, and it’s blatent troll picks. Or picks that you can tell those players have no business playing - either because they haven’t been able to demonstrate their ability to play, or it’s just a poor pick given the circumstances of the match.
I’ll be honest, I don’t flex very well. I have poor eyesight, and getting those snap shots on most of the hitscan is a difficult thing for me to pull off. So I tend to play healing classes. So I’m already struggling, but I do the best I can with what I have available to me.
Enter the throwers…
I can spot them a mile away, from their stupid names that look like Charmap vomited on my screen to the fact that they never miss a shot, they’re way over-skilled for where they’re currently placed.
I was in a game a few days ago in team voice chat, and some guy was bragging to everyone about how he’s throwing the match, and that we needed to just suck it up and accept that. And then explained how there’s lots of people making groups on the new group finder thing JUST TO THROW.
I’m not even shocked by that, not in the slightest, because it’s so prevelent where I’m currently ranked that I see it at least once out of every three games. And it doesn’t even matter whether the thrower’s on my team or the opposite team, there’s nothing fun about it.
You see chat blow up, everyone’s typing stuff out about a thrower on the enemy team and you just go, “Well, I guess we win…” - It’s demoralizing either way, there’s nothing good about having a ‘win’ thrust upon you because someone on their team is deliberately trying to lose.
After a couple of games I walk away with the mindset of, “I’d rather suck on the barrel of a loaded gun than play this game ever again.”
I think there is a reasonable thing that can be done to combat this… And I know it’d probably go over like a lead balloon by the community, but it’d pose a proper solution that would bypass this hardline WIN/LOSS crap that people are playing the angles of…
Award players for playing well.
I’m not talking about these circle-jerk thumbs up you can dole out to players, I’m talking about, give out a WIN/LOSS on whether they won or not, but award players points for playing their character classes well. If you’re netting gold in your designated roll then give that player a bump in their rating and get them into a better rank.
Make their competitive experience relative to their class choices, and not strictly on whether they were on the losing or winning team. Maybe give them more for winning, fewer for losing, but stop empowering other players to force me into a position where MY PLAYING WELL, and MY PLAYING TO WIN, is a net negative to MY EXPERIENCE.
I’ve been barking up this tree for a while. This is all root to toxicity. ALL people care about is their SR… If their SR is in their own hands and their own hands ONLY, then they wouldn’t give a hoot if someone threw on the team. Imagine a scenario where a player is throwing on YOUR team, but you played REALLY well on whatever hero you were on… You lose the game… but you STILL get SR (not as much since you didn’t win) You think people would get toxic? F NO! THAT is a solution… Not this feel-good garbage voting system… To make it worse, you can’t criticize hard because you get banned/silenced.
THIS is why people make throw accounts. That is a way to get back at the system.
