I have been trying to get this sorted privately for some time to avoid being further targeted by hackers, but blizzards inaction and uncooperative behaviour is down right negligent.
A recent update to my virus software has finally detected evasive malware, and to the surpise of nobody the moment it did, the 300+ ping bug has stopped.
In the past I was able to prevent anticompetitive malware being deployed by blizzards unsecure live patching system by turning on various security features in windows defender. However blizzard have since changed their system and the game will no longer launch with this protection in place. I then used webroot to essentially do they same thing, this worked for a while but again. Instead of fixing their negligence, blizzard opted to make the game crash instead, at least it blocked the infection, until they stopped it completely. I switched back to malwarebytes and instead began submitting windows feedback reports every time it happened, last week malwarebytes was able to detect it, and the ping “bug” stopped again. Malwarebytes has blocked overwatch communicating to what it called “unallocated ip’s” as well as some of the hijacked/infected google content servers, turns out the “applying update” screen you see before a match is overwatch downloading executable data completely unencrypted from google content servers over plain old HTTP.
The negligence on behalf of this company is staggering. I emplore anyone with this high ping for no reason, anticompetitive malware to continually use windows reporting anytime it happens, the more submissions the less this company can hide behind its toxic policies to the detriment of players cyber safety
