It’s important that a game company like Blizzard do not tolerate politicization of its events and/or games. The goal of the Blizzard platform is to entertain, not to become a place for everyone to push their agenda.
It’s important to remind players that it’s not Blizzard’s role as a company to spread political messages, rather, they should stay neutral to the maximum possible.
So again, thank you Blizzard, for not letting players bring divisive subjects. I encourage you to keep this stance, harder even, as it will eradicate the undesirable elements that remain on your platform.

Yeah, you’re right. Bringing awareness to human rights atrocities is a terrible thing and should be kept as far away from my gaming as possible! How dare people try to improve the lives of themselves or others!

A gaming platform is not the place to do that. Blizzard has to stay neutral and it’s better for them to forbid politicization. If they allowed it now, then they would have to allow everyone, including controversial political messages (e.g far-right agenda).

Ah yes all their pride merchandise and tweets definitely aren’t political

That was posted by Blizzard’s Chinese partner, NetEase, who I assume didn’t want to get killed.

I find this one more funny:

Well, China is also anti-LGBT, why didn’t they censor it, if they’re appeasing to China ?
Anyways, LGBT issues are less of a political issue than China ownership of a region within its borders.

Politics /ˈpäləˌtiks/
noun
- the activities associated with the governance of a country or other area, especially the debate or conflict among individuals or parties having or hoping to achieve power.
Opinions (including but not limited to LGBT pride) lead to politics, but aren’t inherently politics. Anything can be made political. However, “politics” is a reference to actual government policy and political parties and not simply personal beliefs and values.
It’s one thing to say that you believe in human rights but another to say you support a side in a political conflict that supports human rights.

They did. The coverage for several regions went out of their way to not show any pride banners.

No, they wouldnt. It’s their platform, they can pick and choose whatever behavior they want.
We agreed to their ToS, we waived our “rights”. Blizz is judge, jury, and executioner in all things involving their services. And they can choose to enforce and make special exception whenever and however they want.

Ah, so then you’re for the freedom of speech only when it aligns with your agenda. And this is precisely what they want to avoid

Educate yourself.
The Western ideal associates morality to freedom of speech, but freedom of speech does not give you the right to say whatever you want.
Freedom of speech is a security that allows you to avoid being unfairly or unnecessarily prosecuted by the government for things you’ve said, and ONLY the government. It does not apply to non-government matters.
More importantly, your claim of it being a slippery slope that means that Blizz must allow everyone to give political commentary, is flat out wrong – Blizz can pick and choose. They do not have to have a zero tolerance policy, because they are the rulemakers. They can show favoritism to whatever sides they want.
They can choose to let Blitzchung’s comments slide. They haven’t. That’s what makes it morally reprehensible to Western people.

Even though I don’t agree or like Blizz’s decision on the matter, this is the most well spoken post I’ve seen in support of their choice.
Thank you for your input and words, and helping encourage understanding without outrage. This post is truly art

The rule of the platform is to have no politics, no matter what agenda it pushes.
Allowing only some comment would make them biased and it makes you an hypocrite.
It’s a gaming platform, it’s better that they stay neutral.

Agreed. It’s weird that people would be AGAINST an inclusive environment where everywhere is welcome and come together to play games. That can’t happen if anyone is allowed to use that environment to talk about divisive issues. People say they want inclusiveness but the community has shown their true colors throughout the drama this week. What they really want is people to agree with them and punish those who don’t, which is the opposite of inclusiveness.

Counterpoint: staying neutral in the face of oppression against people who want nothing more than to live their lives without said oppression, is equal to being in league with those who oppress.
There is no choice for neutrality when it comes to human rights.
