TF2 mercs in Overwatch

So me and a bud were discussing what would happen if the TF2 mercs were put in Overwatch. Let’s say for whatever reason, I guess cross Promotion, that the classes from TF2 became playable in Overwatch. The only changes they gain is they now have infinite ammo and no fall damage but minus random crit damage. Asides from that, everything else about them is the same.

As for how Sombra’s hack anything that requires a right click (air blast, Uber, sticky bomb detonate) or isn’t a gun (Mad milk, buff banner, Jarate) but requires left click to use counts as an ability that can be hacked.

Scenario 1) stock weapons only

Scenario 2) you can use whatever possible loadout for a class to make them OP as possible in Overwatch.

Who succeeds and who fails in Overwatch. Who do the mercs counter and who are they countered by?

Note: this isn’t me saying TF2 is better than Overwatch or vice versa. This is just a simple thought experiment.

Anyways, I’ll say the Demoman does pretty well for himself considering the sheer damage output of sticky bombs. I mean just two are enough to take out squishes and considering he has eight of them which he can detonate at once then you have a class that can just one shot practically anyone provided he gets them in his trap. Plus, sticky jumping would let him back cap points or get out of sticky situations with ease.

Medic could also be useful. Sure, he has low health but his ability to overheal as well ubercharged would be useful. Think about how deadly when you combine uber with ults such as Soldier’s, Winston’s or Bastion’s.

Sniper: can oneshot headshot Roadhog even when Roadhog has overheal from Brig.
(he does enough to oneshot an overhealed Heavy which has the most HP in TF2.)

Engineer: What Torb should have been.

Engineer would be current torb on steriodies. Enter the ultra niche.

Heavy would do fine.

Scout would suck.

Pyro would be a boop monster but as for getting anything done…

Medic’s overheal mechanic and uber are awesome.

Demoman would be better Junkrat.

Spy would either rock against slow comps or be useless.

Sniper would bring back McClick.

Soldier is probably worse pharah

PHLOG PYRO. headshots with a flame thrower? Sure why not! (for anyone who doesn’t know look up the phlogistonator.)

Uhm…somebody already made a short about this…

The Spy is my favorite in that video.

I think Sombra outclassed him.

Well, the thing is about TF2 is that HP generally has more value, so their HP and subsequently their damage would have to be upscaled to better fit the standards of OW. Scout, Engi, Sniper, and Spy would all have to be bumped up to 200 HP for a start. Medic would probably be 250. Pyro & Demo to 300, Soldier 400, Heavy 500.

Considering the relative lack of BS and more focus on damage, these health values seem fair on paper. I can try and talk generally, without going much into “but if they used this weapon”

Generally speaking, armor is a huge problem for about half of the mercs, since they all carry shotguns and/or high fire rate weapons.

Scout
Right off the bat, Scout is at a huge disadvantage. The huge abundance of no-aim-required weapons and abilities would make his dodging capabilities pointless, not to mention armor slashing his damage-per-shot in half.

Soldier
Soldier is tough to say. There’s more than enough hitscans to punish bad Soldiers who leap straight at enemies with no plan, but at the same time good Soldiers would be flying all over the damn place, putting Pharah’s and Winstons to shame. Rockets having naturally high knockback would let a lot of silly stuff ensue, with him being able to pop others in the air and then proceed to blast them out of the sky. He’s also largely unaffected by armor.

Pyro
Ok, so I said I wouldn’t say much of “but if they used this weapon,” but Pyro feels like a huge exception since the sheer amount of differing playstyles his arsenal provides him. Reflecting projectiles seems like a big plus, especially projectile-based ults. His stock flamethrower would put out consistent damage a la Winston’s Tesla Cannon, but the Dragon’s Fury? Dear god. This thing would decimate shields, turrets, and would be extremely easy to use on tanks due to their large sizes. The biggest downside of course being that the fireball is a projectile, and can be deleted/reflected. Flares would be great for pressuring and annoying Snipers. The Thermal Thruster sucks as a combat option in TF2 so that wouldn’t change, but it’s perfect for maneuvering about the map. Gas Passer… sucks… it’s only good for MvM.

Well, at least I got through the Offense category.

Also doesn’t he get like speedboosts if he heals specific classes?

Like he can follow a Soldier’s rocket jump, a Demo’s sticky jump, and just keep up with Scout?

He gets the base speed of any target with any Medi-Gun, but only the Quick-Fix lets him jump with Soldiers and Demos and the like.

That would actually be perfect for OW.

Gotcha!

I couldn’t remember if it was a basic thing he had or if that was an attribute to one of his weapons.

Looks like i was thinking both (cause I know I used the Quick-fix a ton) Man I haven’t played TF2 in years…

RIGHT!?

Using TF2 characters for Overwatch is pretty narrow minded considering there are far better, cooler, more recent examples of new heroes in other games, such as League of Legends

Spy

Okay, since Overwatch has smaller team sizes and the ability to see teammates through walls, Spy’s disguise kit would essentially be useless for the most part to be honest with you thus forcing him to rely entirely on his cloak to sneak around. That being said the ability to backstab can’t be underestimate since he could easily one-shot kill anyone. Though I don’t think he’ll be that useful to be honest even with backstabs being able to just insta-kill anyone.

He’ll probably have good matches up against Orisa, Reinhardt and Bastion though provided he doesn’t get caught. Tanks would be a real easy target for him though anyone with movement based abilities could counter him. Sombra would probably be a good counter for him too since hack would disable cloak and she could detect can Spies about to die

Would tf2 classes have crits? If so soldier and demo demolish anyone and everything. One crocket would literally win a 1v6. Also demo would be unstoppable with stickies.

Sure, but I should probably add in no random crits

I think the heavy is the one that’d really change things up.

It’s easy to underestimate just how much damage that guy does, but basically it’s up to 500dps on a high health class. You just can’t stay alive whilst anywhere near that guy.

Engie would be what both Torb and Sym should have been. And would his mini be allowed? Because that could solve the Tracer problem really easily.

If tf2 mercs will be in overwatch first off, complain about nerfing spy, then asking why torbion even exist if engi is just better XD

This video was the first thing I thought of when I saw the title. xD

I’ve been thinking. Would Pyro hard counter Mei? I mean his flames could probably be used to thaw his teammates quicker, melt her ice before it can harm him, destroy ice walls faster and force her out of cryo-freeze earlier.
