TF2 has a community run fan project, an entire GAME

They have a version of TF2, TF2 classic or something. Everything is back to square one, when the game was first released, no new weapons, no random crits, etc. they even added some cut content form the trailers, like tranquillisers, nail guns, etc.

We should do that, make our own community Overwatch and balance it ourselves, maybe even make our own heroes, cause the devs aren’t doing that now, are they?

Maybe not reset everything back to release, but bring back some of the wacky stuff, mass Rez, beyblade Nano’d reaper, etc.

TF2 has community servers and a map maker, I love the idea but we don’t have anything like it in OW

Heck, we can’t even run the game offline unlike TF2 lol

So, we should have our own version of that. Is TF2 classic made by valve, or is it all community run?

It’s completely community ran

So why doesn’t this community make its own Overwatch?

Because we have never been given a map, item maker or the option to host community servers like valve allows the TF2 community

Also, like I previously mentioned we can’t even run the game offline, so we wouldn’t be able to host our own OW games

Blizzard lawyers would attack

Yeah there’s also that lol, I don’t know if valve ever cared or did anything about TF2 classic

If the lawyers work as well as the devs I don’t think we have anything to worry about.

Activision would take it to court

Valve doesn’t care about TF2 this way, they even like community management

make our own community Overwatch and balance it ourselves,

It would be too hard to implement propperly. TF2 has an old and fairly simple engine, as well as map creation software that (afaik) is basically the one from Half-life era, so 1998 or something. Overwatch is complicated, maybe not in terms of map creation, but hero coding for sure. It took them 3 years to fix Doomfist and turn him from “buggy mess” to a “playable” state. And they are paid to do this, imagine what would the community create and how long it would take them to fix simple bugs.

Also, they can’t bring some stuff from the old era. They said that they can’t bring Mass res for sure since they simply deleted the OG code lol. Simple damage numbers may be brought back, but “fundamental” changes like this one…

They didn’t. Quite honestly the best thing to come out of them abandoning the game.

So valve don’t care about TF2 and therefore let the fans make their own version.

Blizzard doesn’t care about Overwatch (Overwatch 1 anyway) so why don’t they let us make our own version. Or at least give us a map maker.

Probably copyright issues, some devs might not like others modifying their games

I wish, at least we have custom game modes lol

Tf2 has full map, mod and server support. We can’t even run our own servers. No way can we support and add content to overwatch the same way no matter how hard we try.

So the devs aren’t updating the game and they also made sure we can’t update the game. K.

I mean if they can make every storm arrow into a scatter one for a fun experimental i don’t think it would be that hard to replicate. They just dont care about that concept anymore

Because Activision still cares about OW and milk it for all of its gain in the way of an active esport, events, a “sequel”, etc. while TF2 has a basic source code and the Source engine is easy to use

Pretty much. Plus OW’s engine ain’t that mod friendly to begin with.

I would love it if we could make something like that, but the custom game browser while powerful, is not as dynamic as it could be in some area’s. For instance you can’t swap models of any sort, nor can you upload custom models, or insert models into levels. Its strictly numbers based changes in game browser.

But random crits were there at release?
