I’ve been having a problem which might be related to this. (Only applicable to Nvidia users. Also I’m on Windows 7.)
My problem is that after updating Nvidia drivers to the latest (I went from 388.13 to 417.35) I started getting very bad FPS and performance with my setup(*) which had worked flawlessly before.
I don’t know if the spatial sound performance issue is related to this, because I did the driver update after the Winter patch had been released.
I found out that the problem starts with Nvidia driver version 398.98 which was a hotfix that supposedly fixed some G-Sync issues (my issue is a G-Sync issue too). My setup works fine with 398.82 and any earlier version, but any version after that has the problem.
(*) My setup:
Relevant hardware and OS:
- Dell S2716DG, 2560x1440 @ 144 Hz, G-Sync mode, Normal response time
- GTX 1080 (tested also with RTX 2080, drivers 411.63 and upwards)
- i7-7700k @ 4.5 GHz
- Windows 7 x64
Settings: - Nvidia control panel (NVCP): G-Sync on (fullscreen) + NVCP V-Sync on
- Overwatch: 2560x1440 @ 144 Hz, FPS limit 141, V-Sync off, Triple buffering off, Reduced buffering on.
Problem:
With latest drivers (and above setup) I can’t get over ~95-105 FPS and there is
very noticeable input lag and stuttering/choking.
Temporary fix:
With drivers 398.82 or before I get 141 FPS (as set by the ingame limit) and
perfect performance (no stuttering, no tearing, no noticeable input lag).
TL;DR:
If on Nvidia and not using new RTX graphics cards: might be worth a shot to try downgrading drivers to 398.82 or older.
