I just bought this game. Use to be a long time fan of the series growing up, but man it’s monetization is horrid! What the hell has happened to this industry?!
Basically charges insane amounts for skins. Charges for DLC characters, some of which are not even new, but returning characters from previous games. Imagine if OW2 made you buy Echo, Sigma, Baptiste etc… despite having them available in OW. On top of that, it’s not even a free-to-play game. The base price is $70 (I got it for $40 though).
Not sure how other games like League, Valorant or Fortnite compare to Overwatch as I’ve never played those. But to know that there’s something far worse in monetization than Overwatch is very shocking.
Fighting games are archaic which is why everyone is looking forward to Project L to bring new blood into the genre. The boomers are used to paying for dlc characters years after the fact and OG casuals know to wait a few years for the “complete” edition.
Yeah.
If you want to have that competitive edge of accessing the game and its characters early, you get the character passes
but if youre a casual who isnt attached to the game, why not wait?
Not me scrolling through melee weapons in valorant that are 25 bucks or MORE each
Fighting games were possibly the original price gougers as far as video games are concerned. Gotta buy Super Street Fighter II: Hype Edition at full price to get the four new characters. Or on-disc DLC for Street Fighter X Tekken.
I mean ya other games definitely do things worse. I mean i 1000% felt from the beginning halo infinite had the worst battle pass ever(even if it never expires) but i still view the overwatch battlepass as bad. Still very sad to see the state of gaming as a whole with everything being locked behind paying more money for it.
