Technical Report: Persistent 0.5s Stutter/Hard Lock

Technical Report: Persistent 0.5s Stutter/Hard Lock on Ryzen 9 7950X3D

Subject: Frequent 0.5s Gameplay Freezes / System Interrupts specific to Overwatch 2 on Dual-CCD X3D Architecture.

1. System Specifications

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D (16-Core, Dual-CCD with 3D V-Cache on CCD0)

  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti (Driver Version: 581.57) The graphic card I used to have was RTX 4090 , but the problem still exists .

  • Motherboard: MAG B650M MORTAR WIFI

  • RAM: 32GB DDR5 @ 6000MHz (Manually tuned to CL30-36-36-76, stable via stress tests)

  • Storage: System/Game: Predator SSD GM7000 2TB

  • OS: Windows 11 Pro (Version: 24H2)

  • Chipset Driver: AMD Chipset Software v1.0.0.12, including 3D V-Cache Optimizer.

2. Issue Description

  • Symptom: During active gameplay (especially in high-intensity combat), the game suffers from a “hard lock” or freezing lasting approximately 0.5 seconds.

  • Uniqueness: This issue is exclusive to Overwatch 2. Other resource-intensive titles and stress tests (AIDA64, TestMem5) run without any micro-stutters.

  • Observed Behavior: * Monitoring shows that during the stutter, the load on CCD0 (3D V-Cache cores) drops sharply while a momentary spike is observed on CCD1 or system interrupt handlers.

    • LatencyMon reports significant DPC latency spikes in storport.sys and nvlddmkm.sys during these episodes.

3. Troubleshooting Steps Taken (Results: Negative)

To isolate the cause, the following optimizations and changes were implemented:

  • Core Scheduling: Attempted using Process Lasso to force Overwatch.exe onto CCD0 (Cores 0-15). Later reverted to official AMD 3D V-Cache Optimizer Service to avoid driver conflicts.

  • Driver Maintenance: Performed clean uninstalls of chipset and GPU drivers (using DDU and Revo Uninstaller) and reinstalled latest official versions.

  • BIOS/OC Tuning:

    • Optimized Memory Timings to CL30 @ 6000MHz.

    • Applied PBO (Precision Boost Overdrive) and Curve Optimizer (Per-core negative offset).

    • Ensured “Game Mode” is enabled in Windows to trigger Core Parking on CCD1.

  • I/O Investigation: Relocated temp recording paths and tested with/without Instant Replay enabled.

4. Diagnostic Data Attached

  • Event Viewer: Frequent DCOM (ID: 10010) errors {AB8902B4-09CA-4BB6-B78D-A8F59079A8D5} coinciding with some system stutters.

  • Visual Evidence: I can’t upload my viedo here.Idk how.But it’s easy to imagine.
