Hello, today I’m going to suggest that Team voice be prioritized over Group Voice in game (inverse to how it is now) and state a few of my reasons for why it should be.
As it stands in Overwatch, there are two standard voice channels (There is also match chat, but that is only in custom games) Group and Team. The names, obviously, indicate what each is for; Group is for talking to your party only, Team is for talking to your whole team. We all know this. And I’m sure we all also know that if you are not in a game, you will only have access to Group chat, provided you are in a party. This is fine, and I see no problem with this. However, what I do have a problem with is that you will stay connected only to Group chat when you enter a game.
That means if you were speaking to your friends while you were queued up, when you enter a game, you will have to manually swap over to the Team Voice channel each and every time you start a game (on default settings) in order to hear your Team’s callouts in Competitive or, alternatively, if you play with your settings, you will have to manually rejoin the group voice chat every time you finish a game in order to talk to your friends.
No matter what you do, this is a massive hassle, and I think it could be easily solved simply by making the Team chat’s Autojoin feature take precedence over the Group Voice chat’s one. Meaning, when you join a game, you autojoin into your Team voice, and then when team voice is no longer available (such as in Queue), you autojoin into group. This means in game, you get to hear your callouts, and out of game you get to talk to friends.
This will make things far more convenient for players who are queued up together. Furthermore, it will discourage groups from either accidentally, or purposefully staying out of team voice, though it will obviously not stop the latter, as they can just disable autojoining into Team voice anyway.
I personally see no reason not to implement this change, and I imagine it would be rather simple, since the code already seems to exist to make group voice take precedence over Team, it would be only a matter of swapping it around.
